Hello, Bluesky! I'm trying this out with my own PDS. I'm not completely sold on this platform, but I do like that I can follow some people I've missed in the past few years of mostly being on the fediverse.

I need every pundit and mainstream democratic policymaker to read this article from @elienyc.bsky.social, especially this part. The fascists do not care about logical consistency because they have something better: power

Don’t get me wrong, trapping the Republican justices in their own logical pretzels doesn’t actually work, because Republican justices are more than comfortable living with their own hypocrisy. They have no problem making one set of rules for policies they like while offering a directly contradictory set of rules for policies they don’t like. They like conversion therapy, they don’t like abortion, and they will rule accordingly. But if they can avoid flatly hypocritical rulings, they’ll try. That means they’re likely to strike down conversion therapy as narrowly as possible, just so they don’t have to deal with a bunch of lower courts’ taking advantage of a gap in the abortion bans the Supreme Court has invited.

Look, this isn't a good reason to hurt Kenvue. The fact that the company exists as a way for J&J to limit their exposure in talc and opioid lawsuites is a much better reason.

Just...wow...did he realize he was moving to Alki? I'd imagine at least 95% of the people in Alki are "outsiders" on any given day.

What am I saying? He bought that house 40 years ago for $20k.

“Kirk & I were on different sides of most political arguments. We were on the same side of the continued possibility of American politics.”

So it’s personal? B/c if you were a Black woman or transgender, Kirk would not imagine you having any role in the future of American politics.

Too many liberal pundits think that the formula that works for the fascists would also work for them. No matter how much progressives show a better way, liberals are stuck in the mode of emulating their opponents instead of trying to actually beat them.

Do you think we could trick them into watching "The Man in the High Castle"? I mean...they should want to watch it since their heroes are in control. Maybe storyline about John Smith's son might actually knock some humanity into them?

This is why I'm so worried about my father, who has been a citizen for almost 50 years. If he loses his rights, my entire world collapses like a house of cards. Am I still a citizen at that point? What about my daughter? Where does the domino effect (to mix metaphors) end?

Also, background checks for gun purchases is supported even more than the COVID vaccine. Is there a federal law requiring it? No. Can we expect one any time soon? Also, no.

The longer it takes us to understand that anti-vax groups act like the NRA or anti-abortion groups, the worse it will get.

It's extremely weird if you've never paid any attention to US politics. Abortion and same-sex marriage are just two recent examples where the federal government actively worked against an overwhelming majority opinion.

When you call everything unprecedented, it erases history.
besttrousers.bsky.social
It's incredibly weird that folks have convinced themselves that the Covid vaccines - which had an ~82^% take up rate - were unpopular.
gregsargent.bsky.social
Wow. New NBC poll finds 78% support vaccines, including 72% of independents and 67% of Republicans.

As I keep trying to argue, Democrats should polarize the shit out of the vaccine/public health debate. Make people take sides. It will split Republicans and MAGA.

Seriously. "We don't want the military in our cities, but we DO want trigger-happy flunkies with the same military equipment! Also, cameras everywhere!" It's exhausting.
eagerpebble.com
This is the same logical problem as the people who think we need 100k more cops. So I don't think this delusion is solely a conservative issue. It's held in a slightly different form by liberals, as well.

Just a reminder that there's no reason to invoke Islamophobia for something that is very much a product of American Christianity.

The Taliban don't need to pull these mental gymnastics because their laws explicitly state that Afghanistan is an Islamic country.
alexaronson.bsky.social
White Christian Taliban shit right here.

Time to stop tiptoeing around it. These people are fanatics pursuing a Holy War. It’s a critical piece of the threat assessment that should inform our strategies. (Psst. They’re not just going to hand back power.)

You need a lot more than a solar panel for a charging station, though. I am happy that more gas stations are installing high speed chargers, though. It makes my life a lot easier.

But have we tried asking actual historians? I think we still have some of those kicking around somewhere.

Of course, that ignores another predatory thing they do where they try to convince you that securing your credit requires a subscription even though freezing your credit is free. But if you don't know the right words to search for...THEY MAKE MONEY BY LOSING YOUR DATA!
eagerpebble.com
The thing about the Equifax leak years ago is that smaller leaks like this just don't compare. Plus, the credit companies all funnel money back and forth for "monitoring" after these breaches, which are full of predatory auto-renewals. The result is that they MAKE money after breaches.

Yeah. I hate billionaires, and I hate when they're in politics. I hate it all the more when other politicians can't even do better than the billionaire politicians.
