Hey BlueSky,

I'm Dustin, an educator, urban beekeeper, and tree farmer.

I believe cities ARE nature and that integrating built and natural environments benefits both.

Passionate about gardening, ecological design, and biomimicry.

Social-sufficiency > Self-sufficiency

Let’s connect.

NDP leader Naheed Nenshi pulled few punches today…

Not only did he condemn Smith’s claim Peter Lougheed would support her attack on human rights…

He called her and the entire UCP caucus cowards.

A lot of questions today about how Danielle Smith -- the "libertarian" and "conservative" -- could use closure & the notwithstanding clause to remove Albertans' Charter rights.

The answer: she's neither libertarian nor conservative.

Is the province or her party, though? We'll soon find out.+

I'm the next few days, it would be a mistake to:
❌️ limit the resistance to the teachers' demands or saving public education
❌️ make labour/workers/unions the only faces of opposition

The UCP's pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause is much broader than one strike or one set of rights.
The days ahead will be crucial.

Not just in terms of public opinion, but in terms of political culture.

Champions of human rights and the constitution must not only outnumber the premier's supporters.

They must persuade Albertans that these positions are dominant, piercing the populist bubble.

Meanwhile, in Manitoba…

At least one premier has a grasp of just how serious using the notwithstanding clause is…

And is taking steps to ensure that at least one province doesn’t use it before hearing from the courts.

Nobody tell David Staples this is all because of the changes me and my UCP have made to how municipal elections are held in Alberta.

Let's see if he can use his "journalism" skills to figure it out on his own!🤭

In the busiest of weeks, I saw something beautiful! A tiny oak tree growing up from the artificial turf at work. Proof that no matter what may try and stifle nature and beauty, it always emerges.

I hope your beauty can thrive folks. ✌🏻🫶🏻
Better option - we tax billionaires into a living wage and fund a society that gives everyone the same opportunities they were afforded.
Always baffled that actual billionaires don't get up every day and write a cheque for $1 million to Doctors Without Borders or an Alzheimers research fund.

Like.

You could do that EVERY DAY.

For the rest of your life.

That would be amazing!
If you won $90,000,000, would the money change you? Or would you mostly be the same person with more resources?
The John Janzen is temporarily closed, so I've been hosting their beehive in our backyard. The colony outgrew their living arrangement, so here’s a time-lapse of me moving them into their observation hive.

It is really imperative we look out for our beautiful #elm trees. #DutchElmDisease #KillingDisease #EasyToSpread #Yeg #Edmonton
Hey, #YEG Alberta Avenue Folks,

Dutch Elm Disease has arrived in the neighbourhood. Be on lookout for crispy leaves in the elm canopy, and please report any suspect trees to 311.

Tree tourism while it lasts
Aw, man. I thought your city was going to escape that.

I'd hoped to make it to Edmonton some day to see streets with elms like I used to see down here when I was very young.
Hopefully, we can contain it, but it’s a matter of time.

Might be time for a visit
If you're interested in being part of a community effort to identify and prevent the spread of diseases affecting YEG's tree canopy, send me a DM, and I'll send you an invitation link.
