'Another lost soul, another effortless apprehension, another bounty he would forget the details of before his afternoon tea. Just another contract. Just another job to get by another week in the modern world. They didn't even register as individuals anymore, barely human at all.'

Whatever your internal doubts and despairs, whatever you have lost, whatever you may fear, others have struggled with the same, have had to face the seeming darkness of daily life. At times, often at our lowest moments of despair, it is knowing this that comforts and gives us the courage to recover.

The boy, now a man, took up the hat to shade his eyes and the coat to shield his skin and the shoes to secure his feet, and walked onward the way his father had once led.

And the boy asked, "Father, when will we reach where we're going?"

"You will know when you know. But I am already there."

The boy turned to question once again but found he walked alone, for his father was no longer with him.

And the little boy smiled at his wise old father and followed where his father walked, careful to step in his far larger footprints.

The days passed and the sun grew dim, soon the boy was grown tall and grown strong and little by little he caught up and even started leading the way.

And the little boy asked, "Father, can I wear your coat?"

"Yes, when the cold wind no longer blows nor bites."

"Yes, when I no longer need walk the roads nor work the fields."

They walked together for many years, the little boy and his father, many years down long roads through one land after another.

The little boy asked, "Father, can I try on your hat?"

"Yes, when the sun no longer blinds my eyes nor burns my skin."

'Oh what wicked worlds we perceive whenever we deign to deceive. The prettiest lies are to those we despise, whilst the deadliest deception is our self-perception, what we see staring back in the mirror seems like it couldn't be any clearer, but our eyes tell lies and others see who we really be.'

Agreed. I also hope they see that some of us cared about each other more than we cared about preserving some imagined past utopia that never was.

Made cheesecake. 🍰 Specifically New York cheesecake. With some chocolate drizzle and some blueberries and raspberries on top.

Don't know what to name this silly little guy yet. Y'all got any ideas? 🤔 🧶

I hope I capture the times and subcultures in which I lived to give people an 'old timey' feel in 50 years. I hope that people in the future can still find it and see that there were people who cared about what we left them. And I hope some of them just enjoy the stories themselves.

The first page of The Dwarf Who Flew by Duncan Wilson, a fairy tale #ComingSoon as a gorgeously #illustrated #FullColor 133 page #book
#Art by @andrefmsimoes.bsky.social

A painting of the dwarven village, with the various villagers going about their day, tending their gardens, mending their fences, baking bread thatching roofs, and hauling water. The titular Dwarf, a young child, is staring up into the sky, watching birds fly about with great ease. Text on the image is the opening lines of the book:

"There once was a dwarf who looked to the sky, watching the birds flit about in the heavens. Endless days and nights the lone dwarf sat on the mountaintop above his village, watching the tiny creatures of the sky weave among the clouds and swoop about the cliffs and crevasses. The other dwarves all thought him foolish, for they liked to keep their feet anchored on the ground whenever possible and saw little to admire in the lesser beasts of the air."
