Aliens, which I hadn't watched since its release, in this edition crawled on to 2.5 hours. Much of that was given over to the luckless and unappealing space marines. I liked the implication that the military can't save the day- only the surrogate mother and the android can.
The swans have abandoned the pond this morning.
Some voters base their entire identity around a political party, yet MPs change parties all the time.
Just what is going on with the unions?? How the HELL are they still supporting #Labour who:

no longer support the workers
support big businesses & the wealthy
are now a #RightWing party

They need to wake up, stop supporting them & support actual parties on the #Left, IE #Greens & #YourParty.
Sadly unions have shown they often talk the talk but when it comes to the crunch they always back Labour no matter how right wing the Labour Government has become. Most unions are nothing more than insurance sales agents. They’ve lost their way sadly

@lbc.co.uk Mathew, with reference to "the royals", the people of Scotland are sovereign and therefore not subjects. The people of England, are subjects.

I don't think this lot get enough credit for their achievements

So congratulations to Labour's top team, from a huge commons majority handed to them on a plate, to a nasty, right wing, authoritarian, soulless rump of a party, in thrall to corporate lobbyists, almost universally despised

Well done!

Vote Reform and get a shit-show. To no one's surprise, hard right idiots motivated by a hatred of immigration are incompetents in government, consumed by in-fighting, egoism and back-biting. Let's hope the wheels come off Farage's latest vehicle before 2029.

Nothing as yet on the BBC News site about the US 'No Kings' rallies today. Hundreds of thousands of people peacefully protesting & not a word from our national broadcaster. ITV is carrying the story. BBC not fit for purpose when it's deliberately covering up momentous events such as these.

Abject hypocrisy but the WM politicians are all owned by their donors
Ugh. Too much Tolkien. England has got a feedback loop with the US of medieval, magical nonsense. A peasant stew of royalty, religion and the state, seasoned with crackpot ideas of manifest destiny.
When someone talks about a "sacred duty" I would like to know which god makes it sacred.

To the best of my knowledge there is no deity who instructs us that promises are binding only when given to British nationals, but maybe the scholars of religion could enlighten me on this.
Lam has heard the charge that retrospective breaches of past promises to deport those who played by the rules are unfair.

She accepts it is unfair & has "great personal sympathy" for those she will unfairly deport.

She says she believes that fairness should apply to British citizens "alone"

Christ alive. If we, as a nation, can’t do better than this nasty, stale-breathed, stale-minded, racist misogynist prick, then what the hell are we doing? Leading in the polls??
FFS. Sort yourself out, UK.

It is a scandal totally unprecedented in history that the Vice President has shared a video depicting the President as king. It’s an obscene violation of every founding American principle.

And nothing will come of it. It makes me physically sick.
Nostalgia is a key element of English culture. The past is always better than the present. You even find it in Shakespeare.

There’s this bizarre thing in England where right wing people pretend to have lived thru things they did not. The boomers all pretended to have lived thru the blitz, and now we got Xers like that guy pretending he grew up in the 50s before football hooligan culture. It’s genuinely bizarre
Looks like he's standing on a box.

Andrew is still eighth in line to the throne. Andrew is still a Prince. Andrew still gets to live in a royal lodge. Andrew has still not been questioned by the Met Police.

Fucking amazing Poem
“A man’s a man for a’ that” – how does he know?
Traipsing with his plough, the rural hero,
Swaggering down the lea-rigs, talking to mice…

One episode, it seems, although they hope there may be more.
I remember Ian Levine bombastically claiming, in the late 90s, that it was extremely unlikely any more would turn up. Then, 9 were found in Nigeria in 2013. But I would prefer brand new Who, tbh.

So @thenerve.news doing essential work about spying/foreign influence in UK politics here - but why no wider focus as there is with the Chinese spy story? Is it because this time it involves Reform UK? Curious.
NEW: Police knew a Kremlin spy ring recruited former leader of Reform Wales at least 3 years ago.

So why was Nathan Gill not charged till Feb this year?

Pls read part 2 of @thenerve.news special investigation into Nathan Gill. And please share!

One thing editors drilled into me was to use "farther" for physical distances, "further" for metaphorical ones.

I have a mnemonic for this:

Mercury is farther from the sun than Earth? Nothing could be further from the truth.

What Mike says is inescapable and people in Scotland need to vote in this context in May 2026.

This isn’t sustainable for us, we need to disengage pronto.

I will keep banging on about this…

…because it is clear that the UK political & media class is utterly broken.

To the point whereby local democracy, trust in the police, quality analysis, honesty, and public safety are all being deliberately sacrificed.
I honestly despair of my home town, electing her. I would understand a sense of betrayal by Lisa Cameron but Reid was a colossal step back for Sth Lanarkshire.

Scottish Greens have now confirmed their membership is up to 8,279. That’s bigger than the Tories (last known membership, 7,000, 2024, likely down) and Lib Dems (3,700). It’s less than the SNP (56,000). But, as @ross-greer.bsky.social asks, is it higher than @scottishlabour.bsky.social?
