Republican decisions are based on their belief that the purpose of government is NOT to help people---it is to CONTROL people.

The right completely fails to understand that national productivity (and security) succeeds and thrives when the mass of citizens are NOT terrified every second (of getting sick; of trying to deal with banks and insurance; of starving).

More productivity = more for all (even the billionaires!)

Despite Trump’s tariffs, China’s goods trade surplus topped $1 trillion in the first 11 months of 2025. Meanwhile, the US trade deficit continues to widen.

When the Nazi government turned their brownshirts loose on Jewish communities part of their pay was the right to loot.
Not only is ICE snatching hard working people who are trying to earn a living, they’re taking their money too?

A witness recorded ICE agents taking a cash box from a taco stand in La Puente during an operation where four people were arrested.

We are witnessing the same thing happening in our government now where due process is ignored in the arrest and detainment of immigrants and shipwrecked men are turned into a bloody mist on the ocean surface without a second thought.

Today in History, 1941: Hitler issues his “Night and Fog” (Nacht und Nebel) decree, ordering that members of the resistance working to undermine the Nazi military be arrested and brought for trial by special courts, circumventing conventions governing the treatment of prisoners. /1

THIS on the right-wing "natural immunity" talking point: psst, it's a racist dog-whistle:
"Natural immunity" has just become a dog whistle way to talk about eugenics. The idea is that the survivors will be the people with immunity, after you get the "weak" people out of the gene people by causing so many of them to die.

And guess who they often tend to think has "good genes" ...

I've always thought that the whole "natural immunity is the best way to protect people" thing was a bit like saying "getting pregnant is the best form of birth control."

Anyway, cool to see it's better for the immune system to see vaccine before virus from an effectiveness standpoint too.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

Anti-science people lying again:
A claim circulating after the ACIP vote: hep B vaccines were approved on "less than a week" of safety data.

This is false.

It conflates the diary-card window for expected minor reactions with actual safety monitoring. That window is short because acute inflammation resolves in days. 1/2

No one should be forced to carry a pregnancy against their will — regardless of how much money we earn or the type of health insurance plan we have.

Tell Congress to stop anti-abortion politicians' latest effort to take away abortion access nationwide.
Protect Abortion Coverage in the ACA
Congress is locked in negotiations over whether to make healthcare affordable or let costs skyrocket. Anti-abortion groups are trying to exploit the debate to push abortion out of reach. We must take action.

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

Maddow is really good at highlighting these abuses (both here and on her show):
"The group rallied amid frigid conditions at the Target store on East Lake Street, alleging it allowed agents to stage raids in the parking lot.

'You cannot celebrate our communities on your commercials while letting ICE stalk them in your parking lot'...”

Thought-provoking short thread:
“It is proper, constitutional, and legal for a federal grand jury to indict a sitting president for serious criminal acts that are... contrary to, the president’s official duties. In this country, no one... is above the law.”

More on Donald's plans to degrade and weaken the USA:
The US is funding fewer grants compared to the past. The money is given in one lump sum instead a yearly infusion from a multi-year funded grant. This leads to more competition, less $ and time to do research. Not a win-win situation.

In just a few generations, it's gone from "women need you & you'll get one as a mate/domestic servant regardless of how you act" to "women can survive on their own & will only mate with you if you bring something to the table" and WOW men are not adjusting well.
I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

Good short thread demolishes the right-wing argument that the 14th Amendment is "only about slaves"--not about immigrants, according to the MAGA 'scholars.'

They are wrong.
During ratification of the 14th Amendment, senators discussed whether the Citizenship Clause would apply to the children of immigrants and resoundingly concluded that it did. The text and history all point in one direction and the counter-arguments are patently fraudulent. I am going to lose my mind
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

Tom Cotton: 'the shipwrecked men knew that other cartel boats, watching somehow despite not being within telescope range or having drones, would NOT come pick them up from the debris UNLESS the 'waving t-shirt' signal was given.'

Tom Cotton: low IQ? or just hopeful that the rest of us are low IQ???
WELKER: Isn't it possible that even the act of taking off a t shirt could've been part of an attempt to get attention for help?

TOM COTTON: Or it could've been an attempt to signal to another cartel boat to come pick them up and pick up the cargo
