If you’re not familiar with the geography, the tension here is that the Salton Sea is sustained by runoff from the Imperial Irrigation District, largest user of Colorado River water. As they cut water use for conservation, transfers, or new industries, less water flows into the lake, exposing dust.
Bad news for workers at the companies trying to develop geothermal and lithium on the Salton Sea:

A new study found that inhaling dust from the inland California lake changes lung microbiomes and harms immune response in ways that may be irreversible. The more the lake dries, the most toxic dust.
Thank you.

I am extremely un-brave in many common human social situations, however.
Hey!

I was 1,800 feet back and under 70 feet of water in a Florida cave during Trump’s first inauguration. Looking at wet rocks was where I wanted to be.

I chose to return to the surface. That may have been an error.

The NNSA maintains the US nuclear weapons stockpile. It also does a lot of other important national security work

Here's the thing I don't understand. You can't as much as sneeze near a historic site in Washington without like 14 commissions, councils, and advisory boards giving you the okay. And everybody now is like...yup, fine with us? wtf?
NEW: After The Washington Post reported Monday on the demolition of the "East Wing facade," a new picture obtained by Law Dork that was taken on Tuesday shows that a substantial portion of the entirety of the East Wing has been demolished.

A weather balloon launched by private company that uses a bag of sand as a ballast, shattered the cockpit window of an airplane at 36,000 feet last night. Yikes!
Looks like the UA1093 incident is tentatively confirmed to be a balloon and not space debris, per this exchange on the other site
How else will everyone know it’s the “Trump Wing?”

The “Donald J. Trump Memorial Sewage Lift Station” would be more acceptable.
Fall colors in Southern Nevada at the Warm Springs Natural Area with a yerba mansa meadow, and a colorful male tree lizard.

2025 is an “annus horribilis” for me but being in nature is helping somewhat.

And friends. Friends are helping too.

It is one of the best little hikes in Acadia, especially in the fall, and it’s super accessible - just a 4 mile loop with 292 feet of elevation gain, and 3 of those miles are on gravel carriage roads. Here are some stills.

Note: The ISS frequently passes over Nevada. NASA can send you alerts when it is near.

Reposting myself from FEBRUARY because GODDAM.
Right? I think we need to get in the habit of thinking of him and his maladministration as arsonists. That burning anything and everything is their reason for existing, and to give them not a single atom of benefit of the doubt.
Hello, I’m an astrophotographer that lives in a light-polluted city that’s fortunately in a dark sky region. I considered a masters in planetary geology but did not pursue it.

I’m interested in solar system exploration, space weather, and exobiology.
Yes, we fire over our Marines, soldiers, and allies during wartime.

But firing over an Interstate highway filled with the public is reckless and insane.

Bonkers disregard for human safety.

Good morning everyone!

After some rough times, we’re heading into yet another shutdown week feeling lifted by the community spirit of the #NoKings marches.

We’re going to call our reps to make sure they’re paying attention.

What are you doing to help keep the momentum going?

Your favorite thing is down because DynamoDB at Amazon's AWS US-EAST-1 Regionwoke up with Main Character Syndrome.

This is the default /legacy backbone for a ton of things.

Including Amazon's own stuff.

Massive outages.

Here's what's going on & what we know 1/

Okay, Louvre, you have reference pics of what was stolen. If you want people to BOLO for them, you have to publicize what we’re looking for.

I don’t know who had what jewels; I only know they’re likely to be old mine cut diamonds (which is likely a motive right there; mine cuts just got popular).
