It’s just vibes all the way down.

“Did we add or lose jobs the last moth?

“Umm … add? Yes we definitely added jobs”
🚨 Federal jobs data may have vastly overstated jobs creation, swinging US from net job creation to net job loss over past 6 months

“The real number could be something more like a loss of 20,000 jobs a month”

Fed Chair Jerome Powell Says U.S. May Be Drastically Overstating Jobs Numbers
Powell said that Fed staffers believe federal data could be overstating job creation by up to 60,000 jobs a month—which suggests the jobs market might be shrinking.

“But I was born in Nepal!”

“Yeah but you *seem* Bhutanese”

Mohan Karki's family and others with Nepali ancestry were persecuted and driven out of Bhutan in the 1990s. Karki himself was born in a refugee camp in nearby Nepal. Yet, the U.S. government claims he is a Bhutanese citizen and seeks to deport him there. n.pr/4iX0SCQ

Faneuil Hall is a shrine to American democracy. Second only to Independence Hall regarding the importance of events that happened within the walls.

This is an absolute disgrace.
“Officers were asking everyone what country they were from, and if they said a certain country, they were told to step out of line and that their oath ceremonies were canceled.”
Immigrants kept from Faneuil Hall citizenship ceremony as feds crackdown nationwide
Trump administration is pausing naturalizations for immigrants from 19 countries.

Pulp Fiction was genuinely sort of mind blowing when it was first released. Still think it’s great.
Hot take but Tarantino has exactly one great film (Jackie Brown) a few decent ones and then the rest are a collection of great scenes in kinda mid movies

I say this every time someone brings it up:

Trump will never spend a single day in jail.
Trump has been trying to go full dictator this entire time, if he could just do it he already would have. His public support plummeting isn’t going to make the task easier
Reality Time:

If Trump truly intends to go full dictator, it'll happen in the next 11 months. The way he's destroying the country, there is a full on GOP bloodbath coming next Nov, and when that happens and Dems take ALL of Congress, he knows he's going to be impeached, removed, and jailed.

As a young kid (maybe 5?) my dad permanently lost hearing in one ear from what today we’d consider a routine ear infection.

But penicillin hadn’t been invented yet, so there was no good treatment other than to have him suffer for weeks in the hospital.

Is there an anti-antibiotics movement too?
my hot take based on nothing is: GOOP is part of why we landed here.
One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.

JEJ a solid choice. I’m going with a different three-named Jones, Tommy Lee.

Men in Black, Lonesome Dove, The Client, a Batman movie, a Capt. America, The Fugitive, and of course No Country For Old Men. There are more.

A list so good it’s hard to even take its measure.
James Earl Jones might be the one here. Everything from Dr. Strangelove, Hunt for Red October, and Star Wars to The Sandlot, Field of Dreams, and Lion King.
This is a Bill Simmons game, but you’re stranded on a desert island. You can only have one actor’s filmography. You get it all, including cameos. But just the one performer.

I’m taking Cate Blanchett: Talented Mr. Ripley, LOTR, Life Aquatic, Black Bag, Tár, Ponyo, Hot Fuzz, Eyes Wide Shut, Thor

Every few weeks or so, I check in on Twitter to see how a big story is being received there (in contrast to BSky)

The ‘Following’ feed is bad but tolerable.

If I click into the ‘For You’ feed it’s like sticking my head in a microwave.

I can literally feel a physiological reaction

In all my years watching law dramas I’ve learned you should never ask a question to which you don’t know the answer.

Does Tim Walz know this answer?

If the WH press corps had any spine, they’d collude to hammer on this

“Sir, you didn’t answer the Q from NBC. Again, why did you pardon this man while killing alleged drug smugglers who may only be fishermen?”

“Sir, NBC and WSJ have both asked and you haven’t given a direct answer. Again …”
TRUMP: If you’re trafficking drugs to the U.S. via the Caribbean I will kill you.

ALSO TRUMP: If you’re doing time because you helped traffic 400 tons of cocaine to the U.S. via Honduras you get a “Full and Complete Pardon.”
