oh it'll be a fruit bat v possum battle royale if it fruits!

(I hear ya on the nectarines - the crows and magpies get my peaches)
drnatosborne.bsky.social
Ahh this is so helpful and good to know, thank you! (The possums usually eat all the flowers, so we never expect to actually get fruit, but the flowering has outpaced even possum family appetites this year!)

Ugh i KNOW! As if we didn't want to read the book we deliberately searched for and are prepared to tolerate reading online!!!!

Oooh, best of luck with your citrus! Our citrus season is wrapping up, but we had a good year on the lemons and mandarins

They're beautiful trees, we built out little studio flat tucked in under one, the architects very lovingly mapped the tree and designed around it 🥹

Normally the possums eat all the buds so we don't get fruit (which i am okay with because they tend to leave the rest of the garden alone) - the possums are still around but they're not eating the flowers at the rate the mango is pushing them out...

Lots of rain in Feb/March when a cyclone came through but it has been fairly dry since then?

If AI tools are so amazing why are all these companies trying to force their use? The regular search bar sometimes become a chatbot bar? The power button on my phone now opens an "assistant"? Adobe reader has 3 separate bits of the screen devoted to encouraging use of their stupid summary tool?

The trees are covered with mango blossoms, more than I have ever seen in the 5 years I have lived beneath them. I am worried this means they're dying?

but, like, actually

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

this is an incredibly ominous beginning to a future with a largely carved out federal emergency response system

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

As an instructor, I'd rather see your fever dream, No Doze-fueled 4AM essays written at an IHOP rather than anything generated by an LLM.

Hope this helps

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

So glad to have friend-of-the-show Dr Anastasia Kanjere back on to help us think through expressions of fascism here in the settler-colony - this is part of our ongoing series on fascist affects, politics, and expressions in the streets and pop culture
radioreversal.bsky.social
On this morning's show we're playing an interview with anti-fascist scholar Dr Anastasia Kanjere on the links between fascism & the broader political realities in the settler-colony, & the affective tools fascists use to make themselves victims & obfuscate their violence @4zzzradio.bsky.social

As we face down daylight savings time and the annoyance of being in slightly different timezones from colleagues, and the annual 'should QLD have daylight savings? should anyone?' discourse, I propose a solution: 4 hour work day as standard. More hours for morning and evening leisure for all

“AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society, and our descendants will be digging it out for generations.”

This whole section really.
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
