The old mask did not work, business is making its rounds in social media comments again. Here is an archive/list of studies that prove masking does work if you wear the right type of mask!

The medical office needs to do better. They can provide masks and insist people wear them.

AIR-BORNE: The Hidden History of the Life We Breathe
'The air teems with invisible life. This last biological frontier remains so mysterious that it took over two years for scientists to finally agree that the COVID pandemic was caused by an airborne virus.' @carlzimmer.com

Few patients appeal a health insurance denial, but a little-known process that requires insurers and plans to seek an independent opinion can force insurers to pay for what can be lifesaving treatment.

Here’s what experts say you need to know.
How to Fight Your Health Insurance Denial with an External Appeal
When a health insurer refuses to pay for your treatment, you may have the right to have the denial reviewed — and potentially overturned — by an independent provider. Here are six steps experts sugges...

Ask at work about limiting disease spread. There are some cheap easy wins that are good business practice anyway like keeping HVAC filters and ventilation at ASRAE recommendations. And in most workplaces you can just bring an air filter to your desk or office.

Yale researchers analyzed data from 158 million US workers and found that even after the pandemic, COVID-19 continues to raise work absences by 13% and labor force exits by 13%.

The virus has created a new year-round baseline similar to flu season.

A group of 53 people with #LongCOVID joined a clinical trial for Vyvgart. For many of them, the treatment changed everything.

Then, without warning, Argenx canceled the trial.

Most of them have now relapsed.

They're calling on the NIH and HHS to study the drug: bit.ly/48l1Qp5
A photo Nicole Barrick, a woman in a pink KN95 mask, receives an infusion of Vyvgart. The text reads, "The Sick Times. Vyvgart brought us back to life, but the Long COVID trial was canceled. We are calling on the NIH and HHS to study the drug. By Clare Banaszewski, Nicole Barrick, Mike Bilik, Addie Davis, Mia Delli Gatti, Ellie Hayes, Roman White." "For those living with Long COVID, every ounce of hope is hard-won. This isn’t just about physical symptoms. It’s about the emotional toll of being given hope — and then having it taken away." - Vyvgart clinical trial participants

A great summary of disease transmission. Why we know how diseases spread how they do.
And what that means for stopping disease spread.
Hint lots of stuff is airborne and there are low cost, low effort, high ROI controls including ventilation & air filters.

Latest covid data: after nearly a year of low covid levels, we're in another wave.

Good time to re-post my basic science explanations of how airborne diseases like covid spread, and how to lower risks if we can't isolate:

Pic of the new replaceable bulb for the Torch 2. No more throwing out the entire fixture each time the bulb dies (Yes, it's nuts, that's how basically all Far-UVC emitters work, yes, the industry likes it this way). It should really drive the price of Far-UVC through the floor.

RCTs are a near absolute waste of time when basically any better test or method is available.
And RCTs still provide an amazing value when they are the correct way to study something.

Was recently at a conference with lots of pharma people. The only people other than me in a mask were catering staff setting up the coffee stations. Enough sniffles and coughing from all directions during one presentation that I estimate roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the people affected 🤮

But the patient population there is pretty much at the top of the list of vulnerable populations... It just is hard to make sense of.
drjamesmorris.bsky.social
Why would they think that is ok? Do they fundamentally not understand disease transmission?

French pharmacies run out of Covid tests as cases soar.

Up to 150,000 COVID ‘auto-tests’ were sold last week amid a surge linked to the new XFG variant.

Self-tests give results in 15 mins but are only ~70% accurate, meaning 3 in 10 positive cases could be missed.
