My phase was wearing ostentatiously wearing this shirt to, like, the mall.

There’s apparently Two Types of Guys and I submit that you should only vote for one of them.

I have very little patience for people who say “I didn’t know” and then leave it at that. I’ve posted about this before (and some of you witnessed it in real time) but a few years ago I didn’t know what a TERF was and cohosted a baseball podcast with one, and I got dragged for it. (1/)
I’ve never seen that. Although my programs tend to be more conservative than some.

Also: 120% would be a huge jump!!!

This morning felt a little uncanny. The cat got all excited at the window sill. We looked out & it was her orange tabby doppelgänger, looking like her reflection.

Then a man in a raincoat with a bear on his back trudged by. Not a real bear, but bear-sized.

Later, I found the bear.

My read of this same rally. It was a feel-good experience.

No idea how many people showed up, but it was enough that the cell network couldn’t keep up

Take note of all these people turning out for protests in small towns in red states.

Remember them the next time you’re inclined to write an area off because “they voted for this.”
Lotta fireworks going off in my neighborhood tonight
important to recognize we are currently watching the greatest baseball player who ever lived smack in the middle of his prime and we should enjoy every second of it

there have been people who are better at hitting and people who are better at pitching but not together, not like this
The ChatGPT pull-up ad is kind of perfect because the kid that used ChatGPT to learn pull ups has, like, dangerously bad form
I love my kids very much and I 100% do not want anything else in my life to be like them.
The best version of AI is like my kids - they're basically good, and try to do the right thing.

They're usually competent, but sometimes wildly incompetent, and occasionally they're kind of unpleasant. I put a lot of effort into encouraging them to act right.
Cannot fathom why they want me to negotiate with my computer to make it do things.
TIR: Moore et al (2024) on the "y-ome" (i.e., genes of unknown or poorly constrained function) of E. coli, showing that 16% of E. coli genes are of unknown function, and another 26% of genes are only partially characterized.
Lots to learn, even in E. coli!

Approximately 0.02% of children in the US have cancer, and somehow ICE is detaining minor US citizens with cancer at a rate 500x above average?

Genuine breakthroughs in the field of doing evil shit.

Brown REJECTS Trump’s loyalty oath!

“I’m concerned the compact, by its nature & provisions, would restrict #academicfreedom & undermine the autonomy of Brown’s governance, critically compromising our ability to fulfill our mission.”

This particular figure was quite striking - physical microscopy of the E. coli genome. Somehow we run these tangles mess through pores (often not breaking them over significant distances) and render them into reliable representation of whole genomic compartments.
