It arrived today on the last day of the year, and I couldn’t be happier. It is very validating to see my name in a Cambridge University Press publication.
Hardcover of Women and the Army in the Roman Empire, edited by Lee L. Brice and Elizabeth M. Greene To all the female scholars whose insights, industry, and perseverance smote the darkness to illuminate the lives of ancient women and paved the way for future research and publication on this topic.

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

It must be annoying to have to do that every time, but the result is so worth it!

On Indigenous Peoples' Day I'm re-sharing the episode of @thisguysucked.com on which I spoke with host @ceaubin.bsky.social about why, even in his own day, people thought Christopher Columbus sucked.

I find myself having to limit/disable replies and QT’s on this website quite often because some of you don’t know how to behave or act normally.

they are clearly trying to terrify everyone out of showing up to the No Kings protest and I simply do not think it is going to work

see you all there

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

MIT’s reply to Trumps shocking attack on education is a master class in deft rhetorical communication and positioning. It refutes without ceding ground. It negates without naming the charge. It accuses and rejects while sounding compliant. What a breath of fresh air after endless disappointments

MIT rejects "compact" proposed by the Trump administration.
MIT prez wrote: it "would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution" and "is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone."

I didn’t realize I had so many cool folks and projects following me. Apologies for that, I don’t get on this platform very often and I tend to miss notifications, I’m now playing catchup.

Also, hi.

I'm excited for Limp Bizkit, but I'm a little worried about Antifa...
Question
I'm sick and tired of seeing these thugs terrorize big events and am worried that they will try to interrupt Limp Bizkit's set. My gf (F19) and I (M31) are going to our first Lollapalooza and are concerned about the growing threat around the city

This is a professor at Rutgers who teaches a class on the history of anti-fascism. He also teaches about human rights. He has received multiple death threats and been doxed. He is relocating to Europe for his safety. This is where we are in the US now. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Apropos nothing in particular, one can disagree with a good junior scholar's arguments about a set of events in the past without maligning them as advancing a harmful political agenda whose emergence post-dates work they did on those events and with which that scholar is openly, clearly, not aligned

Academia and particularly the humanities is facing a global crisis. We need to be supporting each other. What we do not need to be doing is tarring kind, brilliant people with political views and personality traits they don’t have just because you disagree with the results of their research.
