Duke 3D’s levels worked because in each map, one building was the thematic focus. There might have been other stuff, but that was the focus. And that sort of visual fidelity, vertical mobility, and interactivity isn’t a thing in Doom. I think D2’s city levels would’ve been too busy at that detail.

It takes place in Hinamizawa a year before the events of Higurashi, though it’s more of a purposefully non-canonical side story. You won’t meet any of the cast, but you do get to pick up a very familiar hatchet and visit some iconic places and soak in the atmosphere.
