Being a journalist and eating three meals a day were mutually exclusive states in the early-mid 2000s, where as the proposal writing gig I took was relatively well compensated, always in demand, and suited my antipathy towards actual labour.

Thump and Mamdani posed infront of FDR's painting in the White House with a thumbs up and Trump is the one who released it as a personal win? Did someone lock Stephen Miller in a closet for the whole visit?
All this the day after calling for 6 Dems to be hung? This is normal? Dude is acting f-ing crazy......

Somewhere, Elise Stefanik and her team are watching Trump set fire to their entire strategy to centre their gubernatorial campaign around opposition to Mamdani as the ultimate form of evil in America.

Mamdani comes off as very smart, very agile, and clearly knew what buttons to push with Trump, likely flattering his supposed 'NYC developer' skills. Doesn't give and inch or kowtow at all, but doesn't take any of the bait during an embarrassing show from the press corps.

I'm not surprised at this outcome. I'm more surprised how tone deaf the GOP Senators were thinking the House would just swallow a seven figure payout without a peep.
The House has voted unanimously to repeal the provisions in the shutdown package which allow GOP Senators to sue the federal government and get as much as $1 million in damages - because the feds looked at their phone records in the Jan. 6 investigation.

I cannot imagine anything more hellish than not being willing to accept the death of a loved one so much that you curse your child to bond with a simulacrum that at any moment could get twisted and encourage them towards self-harm or expose them to explicit content.

Somehow I doubt 'hey, it wasn't like she was in elementary school' is the strong argument they think they're making.

The attorney general and the FBI director, a manosphere podcaster bro, pulled into the situation room a member of Congress best known for getting kicked out of a Beetlejuice musical for drunkenly giving her date a handy, in order to pressure her about the president's child sex trafficking scandal.

You know, watching the richest man in the world scurry about and try to build a list of favourite movies and books he certainly hasn't read or watch because he got torched by an author he certainly has never heard of is an astonishing thing. Made worse by errors he makes about his 'favourite' works.

I feel bad for Kevin M Kruse because he's dealing with a flood of people who believe that walking away from the Democrats and forming a new progressive party is the key to victory in 2026 as opposed to reforming the Democrats. It's part of the basic mistake so many on the left have.
November 10, 2025 at 9:46 PM
I more measured take from a very smart observer of Congress. While Democrats folding (and doing so in a very public manner) is bad, there were some wins and now it is in the hands of the House and Trump, both of which are arrogant and stupid enough to potentially tank the deal.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.
November 10, 2025 at 4:55 PM
It's a real shame that Democrats took a massive win on Election Day as a sign to fold for some magic beans. What a ridiculous party and how crushing this must be for Americans, because Trump is now emboldened and he will got hog wild. Next week they'll announce his $260M payout because why not?

The article doesn't point out two keys factors especially in play in the US. First, is that the overwhelming increases in cost of living are entirely due to defacto monopolies controlling the costs of housing, food, and utilities, driving up rates for maximum profitability while suppressing wages.
This article touches on so many issues.

1. Young people simply cannot afford to have more than 1-2 kids, if any at all. Absolutely true.

2. The economic system we currently have simply cannot deal with the changing demographics.

3. Anti-immigrant policies hurt.

People are having fewer kids. Their choice is transforming the world's economy
Family size around the world is dropping. That choice by couples is triggering a population shift that's sending shock waves through economies.

The stupidest thing about this is that many Democrats are falling for the bullshit framing that trans athletes are somehow cheating and that is the motivation for their trans-identity. Considering the level of hate, abuse, and peer pressure they face, no teen identifies trans to win a track meet.
