Just once in my life, I'd like to read a message from my college's administration that involved a plan that wasn't outright hostile to faculty. God, being a teacher sucks so much now. It wasn't like this even 10 years ago.

One year ago today, a spectacular aurora display graced the night sky across much of the globe. This was my view in *Oklahoma.* What a beautiful world we are fortunate to live on. #photography
Pink, green, and orange aurora pillars with a SAR arc and moon-lit clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. The andromeda galaxy between a red SAR arc and the Milky Way. Numerous pinkish aurora pillars with a bluish-purple sky and spotty clouds over relatively still waters of a large lake. My short story "Scratches" is going to be published in the latest Tales of Sley House anthology! If you're in the mood for some Southern gothic spookiness, please give it a read.

There are so few people actually asking, “is this any good for what we do?” Instead people give lip service to “responsible use” while plowing ahead with punching “AI” into everything. This isn’t just about selling a product; it’s about co-opting humanities researchers to train “AI” models.

so many of the small indignities of daily life come from us being denied the ability to tell a rich man in a tech company to fuck off. minesweeper has microtransactions. paid services have ads. the opt out says maybe later. the drive thru is a broken chatbot. your car is an ipad. fuck off! fuck off!

Man, that "being anti-AI is just another form of bigotry" take probably goes real hard if you're stupid.

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

I teach community college in Oklahoma, and our literacy rates are so abysmal that much of what I teach is dev ed reading. And the college (due to the state) is trying to phase out dev ed entirely, so pretty much any composition or lit course has needed dev ed instruction by default. It's awful.

No it doesn't, you complete dumbass.
