Plastics Treaty talks are over. After 11 grueling days of delays, distractions, and gaslighting, we are leaving Geneva without a treaty. But countries stood firm against fossil-fueled interests — hope for an ambitious #PlasticsTreaty lives on.

ICYMI: My latest in Verfassungsblog, arguing that Germany's highest representatives failed miserably to discharge their constitutionally mandated obligation to uphold international lawby calling the use of force by Israel and the US against Iran out as what it was: clearly unlawful.

The key takeaway from the Global Tipping Points Conference at @exeter.ac.uk, where I've been this week, convening over 500 earth-system & other scientists:

Global heating over 1.5C risks setting off tipping points that would destroy the world. The hotter, the more danger.

An article that gets to the heart of what’s deeply problematic about market-based mitigation policies: workers are charged a climate rent and can’t decide where to prioritise mitigation efforts via democratic institutions🔥
New publication 🙌

It uses the concept of "climate rent" to critique the distribution of power and wealth in the EU Emissions Trading System.
It's part of an upcoming symposium on Marxism + EU law edited by Me, @pashukanist.bsky.social + @nanoboss.bsky.social

Climate change is already as costly as the Great Depression & will soon match the Great Recession in financial impact. Though everybody wants to split the two, climate policy is actually economic policy.

The Israeli government has shown that it is not prepared to stop until every Palestinian in #Gaza is dead, disabled or displaced. Every day in which it is still armed and supported by Western states, our own included, is a stain on international law.

What was cancelled with USAID was systems

You don't stop Ebola with garlic and crosses

You don't keep planes in the air with a big wind machine

You don't keep nuclear weapons safe with a barking dog

Complex systems - not magical thinking - keep us safe
We don't see it until it fails

Well, hard to read this as anything else.

So far, the president’s freeze on climate and infrastructure law spending has been covered as a constitutional issue.

But Trump is also about to start breaching hundreds of federal contracts — and *that* could soon open a new front in the legal war. I wrote about it:
