It was designed by the Milburn brothers, just like the attached post. They're most known for designing many of the Empire cinemas including Sunderland's own.

It was renamed the Millfield Cinema by 1933 and was part of the Hinge circuit after the war. I feel like a broken record, but by the late 50s this became a bingo club, and more recently became a snooker club.

Five years after Covid, and given the early predictions about long-term illness, it’s astonishing that a major UK study comparing ME/CFS and Long Covid is only being done now and has to rely on charity. This type of work should have been funded by the government from the start.

The saddest aspect of all of this is how a local authority (both Members and officers) have allowed this to get to this awful stage. Their arrogance and lack of empathy with the local community shows a breathtaking lack of ethics.
