thankfully the new owners had it down to $20 so I couldn't say no at THAT price. also there was a little taco stand just around the corner that had been closed RIGHT after we discovered it coming up this way. turns out they were just under new ownership! so good to know for our future return trip.

Funny story about Donkey Kong Classics, so the store used to go by a different name and we'd actually dropped by back in 2013! I asked how much they wanted for it (there were like three cart-only copies on display) and he said *$50* I couldn't freaking believe it. so I just left em for someone else.

NGL it hasn't been a great October. so @miishiikins.bsky.social and I needed a day out to escape! stopped in at KFC for lunch then hit up Throwback Gamez for some retro goodness. Definitely the break we needed from the ongoing shitshow. At least got us some NES heavy hitters!

yeah I am definitely emulating (or otherwise playing some kinda repro) the stuff that I couldn't feasibly afford! (or at least couldn't justify spending $100 or more on it)

(and yeah I usually play in 4:3 if at all possible)

The thing I hate the most in my nerdy hobby is the obsession with consumerism, especially how it's often turned into a virtue. It's why I always say that there's no wrong way to enjoy retrogames: emulate, originals, re-releases, whatever. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it right.

Don Doko Don was one of many late-80s/early-90s games from Taito that were keeping the single screen arcade format alive. Taito ported the game to the PC Engine and it looked pretty good. Unfortunately, there is a significant problem that holds it back.
