My radicalized perspective is that if the US can force ByteDance to divest/shutter TikTok in the US, the EU can do the same for Azure/AWS cloud data centers under the same logic
fundamentally i even get why the european union doesn't want giant american multinationals running their entire internet, especially now
My issue with social media bans isn't so much about banning this for kids but about two things: (1) identifying kids online, which exposes them to more targeting risk, and (2) these algorithms are just as bad for adults who themselves have no capacity to discern truth from propaganda
Australia's ban on under-16s on social media is well on its way to becoming the global norm. I wrote about how platforms lost the argument www.platformer.news/australia-so...

My only WB/Netflix opinion is that Netflix is almost certainly less-bad than every alternative.

Again, I don't know why this is so clear to American expats and not European leaders, but the US is ready to eat the EU's lunch - and dinner - and we're paying them for the privilege by buying all our tech from them.

Yes, Europe is strong. Europe needs to start fucking acting like it, instead of behaving like a bunch of sad professors afraid of tripping over the carpet
"Sometimes we doubt Europe’s power. But what I see is that there are so many people trying to undermine Europe, and I wonder, if Europe is not strong, why do so many people seek to undermine it? Because the truth is, we are strong."

The rule of thumb I have on this is that if it looks like consent (ie. voluntary, intentional act in furtherance of the primary goal of the data subject), but doesn't otherwise meet the conditions of GDPR consent, it's very likely a legitimate interest that also usually passes a balancing test.
Legitimate interest as a lawful basis for requiring the creation of user accounts on e-commerce websites

Please stop amplifying Nazi slop from the Nazi social media site here on Bluesky. I deleted my Twitter account for a reason. Thanks.

Is Germany (or the EU for that matter) even asserting their interests? Europeans seem unable to decide whether to run away from Trump or to suck him off
A whopping 65% of Germans say Germany is acting too cautiously in asserting its interests towards the United States.

lmao they straight up Ayn Rand this shit
Let’s look at those priorities:

. “the affairs of other countries are our concern only if their activities directly threaten our interests”
. Focus on Western Hemisphere
. nations should prioritize their interests
. “days of the United States propping up the entire world order like Atlas are over”

Finally a FATCA case goes to CJEU
International Data Transfers return to the CJEU

The Market Court has resolved to submit 13 questions to the CJEU in FATCA case. The Court aims to secure critical clarification regarding the conformity of the FATCA Agreement with EU law, as well as data transfers to the U.S.

Bingo. And no more conditionality on complicated things like coalitions, consensus, human rights, or anything else America hates
Let's be clear here.

The Trump administration does not actually want Europe to be able to independently take care of its own security.

They want to maintain a system of vassal states who are dependent on American weaponry, but in a new order that no longer comes with protection guarantees from 🇺🇸.
Top US official berates Europe over cutting American industry out of defense buildup
Washington is unhappy that some European arms programs limit U.S. participation.

My personal experience is that people are visibly, viscerally *much more* horrified when they learn the full history - the British mandate, establishment of Israel, the Nakba, border closure and embargos, bulldozing homes, bombing families, prisoner torture, assassinations all over the world.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

The IAPP are utter imbeciles at handling personal data in my personal experience as well. Given their major donors and geographic focus, it fits.
Here we have the preeminent privacy professional organization and gatekeeping certification body opting people in to marketing materials.

I kinda wonder how the various regulators would view this?

I swear to christ it's like every country in Europe is laser-focused on trying to win the second-tier league of national football
Can’t decide who this is worse for, the EU or the UK. But the real looser, of course, is European defence. So all of us.

Stephen Miller's culture is incompatible with "western" values and so he should be deported to wherever he came from, which is presumably hell, or maybe a latrine
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

The deployment of the national guard is designed to ensure that the United States never becomes a civilized society
Pirro: "These Guardsmen and all who are here to protect the District are the line that separates a civilized society from a barbaric one."

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Mass Effect 1-3 as a trilogy of trilogies with an obscene budget, like Lord of Lord of the Rings.

For TV, the Expanse seasons 7-500
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Fuck yeah
The 🇪🇺high court ruled today EU countries must recognise the same-sex marriages conducted by other member states in their own national law.

There are many questions about the ruling, which could mean that people living in Eastern EU simply need to have a ceremony in the West to be married at home.
