Online leftists miss the point when they treat trans, women’s, BIPOC, and disabled struggles as secondary to the “workers’ revolution.” Dismantling racial supremacy and patriarchy is the revolution. If you overthrow capitalism without uprooting those foundations, it just comes back with a new names.

In incredible news, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly for "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women."

Even the center-right European People's Party voted for the declaration.

It will form a foundation for their position at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Our latest.
European Parliament Votes Overwhelmingly For "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women"
The resolution, though nonbinding, is a significant shot at those who seek to erode transgender rights on the continent.

Someone who is a member of a privileged group ascribing magical qualities to a vulnerable group is a form of dehumanization. Which, as we know, is the first step on the road to denying them resources & services, denying their human rights, and serving as a pretext or justification for harming them.

They're talking about refusal to engage with dehumanization as it's a bad thing "policing ontological beliefs of other people". Yes if you believe I'm subhuman then I won't talk to you.

They said "free speech" and "academic freedom" but never believed in either and now in texas you need a permission slip to mention race in class and they're fine with it. Might not have worked if people with large platforms weren't furious about marginal increases of black people in their offices

the replies to this are so fucking funny, it's half people going "oh yeah, alice, she's cool!" and half people talking about me like I'm some fucking cryptid they can only speculate about

anyway hi yes hello I'm the video game horse expert, yes, for real, yes, this is my actual job 💖
from the headline thought this was a slightly tongue-in-cheek descriptor for someone who has commented on a horse in a video game once or twice but nope this is a bona fide video game horse expert

it's so crucial for external consultants to evaluate your game before it releases (if you can afford it). the right team can catch major gameplay flaws, weak story aspects, and much more. i've worked with teams who have saved devs major PR crises. consultants do more than predict metacritic scores.
"Internal feedback on Highguard prior to its reveal "was quite positive," Sobel wrote: There was, apparently, a widespread expectation that the game was a sure-fire hit."

Getting playtests and mock reviews done by external partners can be a really good idea.
Laid-off Highguard developer cuts loose on the reaction to the infamous Game Awards reveal trailer: 'We were turned into a joke from minute one'
Former lead technical artist Josh Sobel says false assumptions and ragebait were major contributors to Highguard's failure to connect with players.

Very mixed feelings tonight. This industry is in massive need of reform, because it’s hard enough shipping something creative as it is.

Working to do so surrounded by even more layoffs at multiple companies is an odd time. Shipping used to mean celebration, before greed took over the industry.

I posted on *three platforms* just over *20 minutes* after Radio-Canada first misidentified this innocent trans woman as a mass shooter on national television in a 6:00pmET broadcast.

I tagged Radio Canada and Patrice Roy.

They didn't issue a correction until after 2:00pmET today.

Unacceptable.
Radio-Canada apologizes after it aired a photo circulated by anti-trans hate groups online, falsely claiming it was a photo of the Tumbler Ridge shooter. Damaging and irresponsible, and this apology raises more questions about journalistic process imho.

Alt text: a graph showing a massive spike in anti-trans articles per 30 days.

The x axis starts in 2012, most of the spike is just in the last decade

The spike really starts to kick in around 2017 or so, corresponding almost *perfectly* with powerful sexual predators feeling threatened by MeToo.
a stat i always cite is the number of anti-trans articles in the press went from 60 in a year, to 7,500

You know what? Let me give y'all a fucking example.

Calling something "racist" or "white supremacist" will literally be interpreted by white people (broadly construed) as adjacent to an ad-hominem attack because of how we've culturally organized our understanding of racism and white supremacy.
As I repeatedly emphasize to my students: the presence of a fallacy in discourse does not render the broader argument irrelevant and many "fallacies" are premised on a given network of cultural meanings. One could make a valid and sound argument for why someone is "bitchmade" and use it effectively.
