If you're ever in Cape Town, let me introduce you to Aretha, the practice she works from made me sign 2 disclaimers, the second one is specifically acknowledging that you are responsible for telling her to back off.

I gotta hand it to whatever advertising firm Informa hired to make these, there really is something almost poetic about GDC's advertising being "an AI-looking depiction of an industry staple being destroyed with no clear elaboration of what comes after." Masterclass in unintentionally nailing it.

One first step people should do to respond to this is start using the “report a speed trap” function in Apple Maps to report where ICE is operating. Make Apple party to the attempt to protect people.
I'm in camp Kobo with physical transfer from Calibre/my local library. Very happy with the choice.

Every now and again I'm tempted to chase the hosted version but would rather spend the time reading.
He did mean those. But even on that high contrast aliased canvas, he still couldn't see them. Possibly because he didn't want to buy then.

A patiently made mixed media artwork featuring a hand sculpted clay octopus, lovingly painted to resemble the species Caribbean Reef Octopus, scientifically known as Octopus briareus.

The extensive and colorful reef on this artwork is made from handcrafted corals, patiently woven glass beads set on silver wire. Slowly beaded together over countless of hours.

some recent illustrations 🐈‍⬛
cartoony digital illustration of a traffic mirror. reflected in the mirror is a neighborhood crosswalk and a black cat is crossing the street. It’s a daytime scene and there are trees in the bg of the telephone pole same illustration as the previous one but at night time. instead of a cat, there are black ghost like figures with white halos. they have green eyes staring back at you

It's not fair to label all of these people as hopeless bigots. Some of them are probably just greedy cowards with no integrity.

Still didn't find my phosphorus, got distracted riding this thing around.

Zines! Zines! Zines! @openbookfestival.bsky.social started today and there are lots of zines at the Babel Tower table in the marketplace, including ones by Reinhard Venzke, Claude Naudé, @willowwaffle.bsky.social, @milo-wildcat.bsky.social, Catriona Towriss, and me!
A picture of part of the Babel Tower zine table showing over 30 zines by many creators from Cape Town and the Western Cape. Babel Tower No 2 - a collective zine - is new for Open Book. It was printed with four different cover options and includes work by me.

I tried to explain that I had in fact become employed in the interim, that I should be paying more, and the teller told me to walk away, "turn around and leave". So I didn't even pay the 27.30.
I needed not-quite-emergency gallbladder surgery during lockdown in South Africa. I was formally unemployed when I first went in. The bill for the surgery, consults, hospital stay for 3 days, etc all in came to $27.30 equiv. And when I went to pay it...
I've fallen into No Man's Sky.

Hard.

Not main quest stuff tho. Only thing I care abt now is the phosphorus I need to install a heater in my mech exocraft so I can gallump about comfort.

Yday, I rode a Squid-bird as a getaway from the scene of my ecological crimes while 5 cops were hunting me.
Here, via private care, the prophylaxis + appointment is around 70€, and each RIg vial is about the same. Via national care it would be free (or minimal, like 8€) but there is a shortage making it difficult to trust in an emergency.
A few years ago I worked out that it was about the same price to get it over the counter in the US as it was to fly to Cape Town and get it over the counter here, as a heavier person, if you were getting RIg. Dystopian level mark ups.
