I'm not 100% sure what you mean - can you try and draw a pic of a desired movement as an example?

I genuinely just used Wordpad on Windows until they finally removed it in some recent Windows 11 update to force everyone onto Word+copilot 🤢

This would be more akin to the kind of "block" you can do on every social media platform, on phone lines, instant messengers etc. to stop serial harassment from bad actors. No one would argue to get rid of the block feature there, because it protects people from harm. That's the kinda feature I mean
danjohnston.uk
I know you went to the effort of doing a whole thread, but since it starts with "imagine if your idea was block lists", which isn't what I proposed at all, I don't think most of it is relevant.

I think it would be cool if Devs could block serial harassers on their *own* games. That's it.

Every single one of these is really cool, glad you're sharing them here!

So cute I love this style the way the light and shadow are in separate blocks like this!

At Game Corner I took a folder of Pokémon Cards expecting to sell just a few, and got rid of about half before the last guy I spoke to 2 mins before the end of the show just bought the rest off me in bulk 🥲 what a moment

The response to this has been absolutely amazing, I'm glad you all like it! For those of you who picked it up please do share with me when you make your projects with them, I'd love to finally see them in action 🥰 #gamedev #indiedev

While that's true I'm pretty sure big publishers and people I would call "capitalists" are less susceptible to review bombing about DEI and probably wouldn't bother using a ban mechanic. But I suppose they could.

Like we're literally talking here from the OP about finding a way to stop bad faith reviewers from tanking a game's rating because it has black people or women in it.

I think to tackle that you need some deterrent of some kind.
danjohnston.uk
It comes with a certain degree of nuance on both sides. For example a customer who likes a developer/publisher/series and expects to continue buying from them has the option to give feedback to improve the series in other ways before resorting to a negative steam review (emails, soc media or forums)
danjohnston.uk
But generally since a dev/publisher *wants* players' money in future they wouldn't be heavy handed on good faith feedback because they would be losing future sales.

I think 99.9% of Devs would only block someone who was being actively shitty (like the reviewer in the OP)

Had a great time at AniMangaPop and Game Corner today! Spoke to lots of local artists about our fonts (one of which is used for the AniManga part of the event's logo!!!)
Me standing by the animangapop sign.

Made the volcano tile set for our 2D platformer kit. That's 6 out of our 12 planned biomes, plus we need character sprites, enemies and collectables. Should be another BIG asset pack when it's done! Looking forward to getting it out there. #gamedev #digitalart
A screenshot of a 2D platforming level set in a volcano. The ground is rocky and and grey, with yellowish-orange lava filling the bottom of the screen. The scenery includes a little wooden shack with a metal roof, some dinosaur bones and a warning sign.

Reposting this reply because it got 100+ likes so I must've said something smart #gamedev

Steam should make it so you can block customers from buying future titles

Sometimes in GameMaker you may want to get the hex string of a color, especially if you're making some kind of tool or utility rather than a game! The script we're sharing today allows you to return a hex string of any color in code. #gamedev

I thought the panellists on QT last night were REALLY rattled. That rant from Zia Yusuf where he just went off saying random crap about us. I honestly think Zack should've just laughed it off and said "look how rattled he is!"
danjohnston.uk
This looks absolutely fantastic by the way!
