So this may seem obvious to you and me, but it's important to repeat and underscore to every normie we can: Trump's goal was always to end *legal* immigration for anyone he deems not white.

A *lot* of Trump voters believed the lie that only "illegal" immigrants would be targeted.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

Absolute poster child for 1) false dichotomies and 2) a stunning lack of evidence behind the assertion ("I'd say this looks about right")

This fails a 7th grade logic quiz. On the Internet, it's a basis for "debate." No facts or data requires.

LOL.
I don't recall where I found this, but I'd say this looks about right.

The DC shooter appears to be a man from Afghanistan who the Trump administration granted asylum. The response should NOT be that this granting of asylum was a mistake Trump should be blamed for. That 2020 decision was the right one, tho in this one case it turned out badly. The problem is the guns.

Let’s make an actual point on immigration, since Vance thinks of the Immigrant Act of 1924 so highly.

It did make it much harder for immigrants to come here, especially from Southern and Eastern Europe, which were the main points of emigre at that time.

But it also had unintended effects 🧵/

JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

Never regretted that for a millisecond, if that long.

Insulting to have to point this out, but if you have spent even 30 minutes reading US history, you realize that every decade has been dominated by racist hysteria that the "new" people won't ever fit in.

This exact prejudice would have been applied to Miller's forebears, when they fled pogroms.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Excellent thread to read/reflect on.

I will add: Every month, we kill as many or more people with guns as the terrorists did on 9/11. Plus the traffic deaths and preventable deaths from limited healthcare. Thousands more.

But that one event changed the world. The others? No one GAF. That's us.
Let me tell you a tale of Thankgivings past, present – and future.

Though I grew up in California, I spent my postgraduate years (grad school for the US types) attending the University of Durham from 1998-2004. It seemed a better bet for learning medieval history there than in sunny SoCal.

The historical record is really, really clear.

It's not just that the United States has stopped trying to promote liberal democratic ideas internationally. It's that the United States is actively trying to promote the contrary. It's trying to turn more countries into Hungary.

I enjoy leaving the herd when it comes to using Wiki as a teacher. \I use it often in history research/learning for myself and encourage students too.

Finding a few small faults in tiny places and extrapolating that fault to an entire entity is a logical fallacy.

Teachers should know better.
"Remember those quaint old days...when Wikipedia was regarded as the unreliable enemy of rigorous scholarship? Nowadays, it’s one of the more trusted sources of information."
