If the AI bubble bursts, the biggest job at risk is the creation of stock images of robots doing human things for articles about AI.

It was only some ravioli and we realised we were out of parmesan which I got post-facto

Baby soap
Parmesan

Is there an argument to be made for Suck It and See and AM as the high point of the Arctic Monkeys? Brought to you by my listening to Suck It And See for the first time in ages.

I can really recommend the work of Conor Curran if you want to learn more about the history of soccer in Donegal!

I went to a soccer and hurling school (is there a more classic urban Irish combo?) and they tried tag rugby and Gaelic football a few times (principal from Mayo) and quickly gave up the ghost!

And we aren't anti-GAA at all. Waterford hurling is a religion to plenty of us as well. But there's no question it's "unique place in Irish life" is more a matter of its being part of a specific hegemony than anything intrinsic to the GAA which resembles most sporting organisations most places.

Going to a Protestant primary school (very much a jolly hockeysticks millieu) has fairly inocculated me against the charms of the GAA, but it's also meant I don't really understand its pull on Irish society

GAA exceptionalism has definitely been due a peg-lowering.

The phrase "centrist rugby Dad" speaks to a fantasy where GAA is this benignly egalitarian, progressive and welcoming space. This is not everyone's experience but good luck to them if they say so.

Malachy Clerkin: The Jim Gavin fiasco was a long overdue humbling for GAA exceptionalism
Micheál Martin had his head turned by Gavin’s football success, forgetting it’s just a sport, no better or worse than the rest

As someone who grew up in a staunchly soccer household with people involved at every level the grip of the GAA on so many narratives of public service and civic mindedness had always baffled me. Soccer in Ireland (and most sports too) are amateur, community based, voluntary activities.

Johnson and Cena are two of the great modern action heroes and come from this world and are now bankers (or were) for Hollywood. & of course the rise of himself and by proxy Linda McMahon to a cabinet position means the think pieces about this world have finally emerged in recent times.

I have a ton of unworked out thoughts abt the way in which pro-wrestling has always been derided as fake, as if it isn't something deeply rooted to an entire culture of popular entertainment and make-believe. Often wonder if it's why it's become such a compelling topic for Hollywood in recent times?

www.npr.org/2025/10/02/n... catching up on my Fresh Air listening and have to say I really enjoyed this. As a WWE obsessive in the Attitude era, this is a really great interview about aspects of the wrestling game that will be familiar to people who've seen Beyond The Mat or The Wrestler.

Maybe they are accidentally going to hasten the arrival of fully automated luxury communism? Basic incomes for all!
daithitoms.bsky.social
The joke I came here to make.
daithitoms.bsky.social
Are we going to give people with no experience and knowledge the job of running things? The point isn't whether it can be automated... But what knowledge is lost _by_ automating. And god help me, surely that also means losing the raisin d'etre of the businesses and their management.
daithitoms.bsky.social
So the thing i don't understand about this thinking is.... If there are no people working in businesses at entry level, who will there be to learn the business and progress through it? Who is there to manage? Why have a CEO at all? I'm the CEO of this one neat AI trick?
