Oh wow. Fantastic story. Thank you. P. S. When is "Kampala diaries" book out? 😊
Hopefully her political instincts and policies are very different from her husband's. But I'm not holding my breath. (didn't read the article as it's behind the paywall)
To be a single state like the USA these days? 😂
... and aparently, it's possible to have a 3rd term 😉
Well... It's good for the environment! 😂
Sure, but the hope is all we have. There's certainly no civil society and political leadership in the UK to prevent this at the moment.
And what we also know is that if the elections are tomorrow, the new British PM would be Farage.
Name one country where in the last 4-5 a "popular populist" leading polls for years eventually lost elections. I dont think you can. From US and Argentina, to central Europe... People seem to like loonies 🤷
Well... There's media influencing politics everywhere. But only Brits find justification of their own choices in media. Chosing Farage plc over pretty much anyone else in that poll is a choice British voters make. Stick one to the jerries, eh...
Back in 2016 we all had (and still have) all the information in the world at the touch of our finger. It's what we chose to do with it. Majority of Brits believed that they will be better off outside the EU. And their choice was to belive DM and Express and Telegraph and effing Sun.
Cue those saying that voters were deceived and that it's all about Russians influencing the results and other nonsense we kept on hearing since 2016
UK is essentially a federation so... Bicameral, with lower house elected on (if you insist) FPTP and upper with "equal number" of reps from each federal unit, with a competence to vote on only a handful of essential issues affecting the federation (defence, foreign and monetary policy...)

🇪🇺🛣️ On November 19, the European Commission will present a package of proposals that will transform EU logistics into military artery. The goal is to ensure the immediate transfer of weapons and personnel.

Poland, Germany, Romania, the Netherlands and the Baltic states will become key transit nodes.
Taps sign.
If D66 wins, as it seems to be, thanks to the votes from abroad, we will be hearing for years about "stolen" elections and fraud and eff knows what from fascists.
That's the problem with Anglo-Saxon understanding of writen laws and norms. It's important to be precise and not engage in vibes and common sense type of discussions leading to misinterpretations and understanding issues the wrong way. So yeah, please don't engage.
There's no "eu" making decisions. There are institutions and organisations and legal mandates. EU is none of those. It's a shorthand to simplify the process for ordinary people. Just like Brussels equals EU equal Europe. None of those is of course correct.
I didn't say you're MDB reader. But there are those over here. As for the role of EC (Council) in decision making, I'm glad that you find facts interesting. Most people don't.
Well... He's doing a reverse Obama - Obama first got the prize and then bombed Libya. Trumpf will bomb first, hoping for the same result.
Sure. I'm simplifying here for the sake of Majorca Daily Bulletin readers who may "struggle" with the difference between "Brussels", commission, council, troika, etc...
Important to keep it real. Otherwise, next thing you know and we'll all start reading Kekkonen instead of Arendt 🙄
It's very problematic that these people have no idea of the concept of state, border, and citizenship. We can all agree or disagree about them but that does not make them go away. Some civic education would go a long way...
Well... You're right about exceptions but wrong about the EU. It's a known anti-EU trope that puts blame on "Brussels". Opt outs are given by member states/heads of states. Brussels (aka European Commission) just implements. It's important that we make that distinction not just for the sake of UK.
