One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

'A Tavern Brawl.' (c1953) James Fitton often captured human behaviour at its most unguarded: the awkward, the humorous, the slightly chaotic, people as they are, not as they pretend to be, quibbling, laughing, drinking, drifting, or something a little more physical.

100% did not know billy joel was like, a beloved musician instead of that guy who sang uptown girl, until i moved up north & somehow everyone here knows him
I grew up in a music-loving household (I was named after a Waylon Jennings song!) and I legitimately did not realize until I met a lot of people raised in the northern suburbs that Billy Joel was a genuine superstar and not a novelty act. I think bc my dad was a lifelong avowed Billy Joel hater?
Absolutely ICONIC that @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social went on Track Star and ... did not recognize Billy Joel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmqL...
