Dear Raul Julia: in whatever Elysian Fields you inhabit, I hope you know that the last movie you filmed & the work that you spent your last moments on has become beloved. A classic not just at the holidays, but a primer on how to selflessly and brilliantly love another person to utter distraction.

Using the belief that creators are the "petite bourgeoisie" to justify pirating books/stealing art is EXACTLY what makes it so hard for anyone who isn't rich to pursue their creative dreams

If you steal our art, you PERSONALLY are preventing us from building sustainable careers
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

He also looks like he films himself harassing civil servants and children under the guise of “citizen journalism”.

In this sort of life you learn two rules of thumb up front and often in rapid succession.
First thing you realize is that transmisogyny is misogyny first and foremost.
The second is that the more extreme the misogyny gets the harder it is to distinguish from a sexual fetish.

This profile of Dan Driscoll, the man Vance sent to force Ukraine to surrender by Thanksgiving, is interesting. But it doesn't mention that he's the guy Rubio and Republican Senators had to stop from doing Putin's bidding and possibly breaking up NATO.

If you think they can be reformed, ask your family how they would feel if they never saw you today.

i got blocked by someone for suggesting that the tech bros/oligarchs think that losing trillions in an AI bubble is ultimately worth it as a means to an end (top-to-bottom societal control).
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.
