I left the intro out, didn’t I.

Well, here goes.

I’m a nearly 40 year old woman with #ADHD and #depression. I am probably best known for salty fandom commentary, running @geekcalligraphy.bsky.social with my best friend, knitting in public, and acerbic commentary on Jews and comics.

So apparently I’m in a starter pack? Neat!

So for the new folks who only found me here and for everyone who came from Ye Olde Birde Site, an intro and some ground rules.

Rule 1 - this is my living room. That means my word is law and I will brook no disrespect here.

Tonight I only light 3 candles, for my three family members. The hostage candle is retired.

Two coffins have been transferred to the Red Cross and are on their way to the IDF.

Two more coffins will follow.

Today is simultaneously one of the greatest days and one of the most sorrowful.

I mean… they survived hell. I expect nothing because that’s what they owe me. Nothing.

I said שהחיינו and started to cry. No I’m splat.

Eitan Mor, Gali and Ziv Berman, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Matan Angrest, Omri Miran, and Alon Ohel are with צה״ל!!!!!!!

THEY ARE COMING HOME.

I might be able to sleep when the first seven are in Israeli hands. Might.

THE RED CROSS DID A USEFUL THING
crewgrrl.bsky.social
They’re chanting “it’s not a victory until the last hostage comes home” in Hostage Square.

I’m just refreshing every app I have that might have something relevant on it.

The difference between the Jewish Internet and everyone else tonight is stark.

If you find out, let me know.

Being on the west coast means I’ll end Shabbat with news. But I also go into it with the most uncertainty.
crewgrrl.bsky.social
Please let this be the last week I light 4 Shabbat candles. Please let them come home.
crewgrrl.bsky.social
Yeah, I just decided that when all the living hostages come back is when I stop lighting my extra candle. If I wait for the remains I'll never stop.
crewgrrl.bsky.social
But why are you trying to confuse people with facts?
crewgrrl.bsky.social
It’s why I hate “punch Nazis” leftists. They don’t mean actual Nazis, they mean “fascists I don’t agree with.” Because if they meant it when they said punch a Nazi, I probably would have fewer issues with the current pro-Palestine movement.

Also, this is important context. *No Jews* deserve to be killed for their choice of synagogue or their personal politics, no matter what. My point is just that gentiles think they know stuff about us based on a total misunderstanding of how we do things, and draw wrong conclusions because of it.

I love you JSX, but I’m (very respectfully) not sure this is quite the thing. Jews shouldn’t be stabbed, shot, or run down in shul on Yom Kippur regardless of the content of the liturgy or the sermon, and regardless of the availability of other congregations. (1/2)

You do not get to kill us if we don't perform to your liking. You do not get to both-sides hate crimes targeting us. And you absolutely don't get to call yourself a defender of victims of genocide while you make excuses for murdering any member of an ethnoreligion.

I don't care how fervently Western gentiles purport to care about the plight of Palestinians. You do not get to tell diaspora Jews where we're allowed to pray, who we're allowed to share sacred space with, or which buildings we're allowed to congregate in.

Which is NOT AT ALL the same thing as supporting the genocide in Gaza, necessarily, but edgy antizionists don't care, and don't limit their excuses of antisemitic violence because of it. If a synagogue shows ANY empathy for Israel/Israelis, they're a legitimate target to this way of thinking.

It is wrong to blame an attack on a synagogue on Yom Kippur on Jewish support for Israel, and it is equally wrong to blame it on Muslim immigration to the UK. We can't give in to mutual hate. Be better, everyone.

And this is the problem.

Because antisemitism is always, always wrong.

This was an attack on British Jews, praying in their shul on the holiest day of the year.

If your response to hearing of their murder starts with “but Gaza” you are missing the point.

i really don't know how much more vocally anti-israel and anti-genocide i have to be before goyim actually care about what i have to say about their antisemitism

if your response to jews being murdered at their synagogue on yom kippur is “anti-zionism is not antisemitism” or “blame netanyahu” just be honest that like seeing dead jews and want to see more of us dead. also, go fuck yourself.

Working my way through a bit of transcription backlog, and the following sentence stuck right in my ear, and needed a personal follow up.

Board Chair: "the reports will continue to come"

Me, in my head: "until morale improves?"

Thanks for pointing me at that one! I love the recipe in 3 Doughs, but wasn’t sure that it was right for this particular need.

Break fast will be focaccia and egg and hash brown casserole with broccoli, corn, scallions and cheddar. Substantial but simple.
