I left the intro out, didn’t I.

Well, here goes.

I’m a nearly 40 year old woman with #ADHD and #depression. I am probably best known for salty fandom commentary, running @geekcalligraphy.bsky.social with my best friend, knitting in public, and acerbic commentary on Jews and comics.
So apparently I’m in a starter pack? Neat!

So for the new folks who only found me here and for everyone who came from Ye Olde Birde Site, an intro and some ground rules.

Rule 1 - this is my living room. That means my word is law and I will brook no disrespect here.
Since we scarpered up to Canada for the actual holiday, we’re having Thanksgiving for Shabbat dinner. Counterclockwise: from bottom right, smoked turketta, roast potatoes, roast sprouts, rosemary focaccia and non dairy pumpkin pie.

This is an example of well meaning museum exhibit design failure.
At the Museum of Vancouver, in their permanent exhibit on Vancouver in the 1960’s-70’s, they say that hippies reclaimed the “lost art” of home canning.

The art isn’t lost if it’s just fallen out of fashion in affluent urban areas.

My back is complaining.
We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

Benjamin articulates so clearly what has been irritating me about the allyship/solidarity model of supporting Palestinians in this conflict. There is no right answer, no objectively correct narrative in this conflict that should be centered.

THIS
People do not actually care about what Jews think re: antisemitism. They want their faves to avoid being called An Antisemite, because being An Antisemite is socially recognized as being a bad thing. But the opinions and lived experience of actual Jews is considered irrelevant to that charge.

Jewish ritual scribal fraud is kind of a minor problem and I can go on about it at length.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

I’m pretty sure that one of the reasons that I was able to take up and quit smoking (twice) as easily as I did was that I was self medicating during what I refer to as my insurance interregnum. 1-2 cigarettes a day was basically replacing my meds, though I didn’t know it.
I am genuinely convinced that one of the reasons it used to be thought that most people grew out of ADHD as adults was how common smoking was.

The biggest problem with Holocaust education is that it’s taught as a historical aberration and that antisemitism ended with it.

It is entirely possible to avoid antisemitism and be a pro-Palestinian advocate, but as it it is possible to be a hard-line Zionist and avoid Islamophobia, but in both cases these prejudices have been endemic to these communities, and conscientious members need to remain on watch for them.

Do you like sweet and creamy black tea? Have I got a late fall trick for you.

Brew your favorite vanilla black tea (I use Harney & Sons decaf vanilla comoro). Add sugar.

Instead of milk/milk alternative, pour in eggnog. I like the fancy stuff in glass bottles, but I’m bougie like that.

Thank you for reminding me of my annual warning.

Don't support. But also don't harass kettle workers. They're mostly clueless, seeing it as a low-impact way to volunteer. You achieve nothing by stressing them out. Just keep your distance.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

I invented a thing. We’ll see how it tastes later.

Behold the babcaccia! Inspired by the hot chocolate focaccia in 3 Doughs, 60 Recipes and the jar of “anytime you have enriched dough you can make babka” dry mix in my pantry. It is non-dairy and smelled pretty damn good baking.

Monster is very into crochet, specifically amigurumi. So instead of pulling yarn from my stash, she’s starting to build her own. We’re taking advantage of the current Knit Picks sale and she is reading the description of a gray yarn over my shoulder.

Monster: “an elephant neutral.”
Me: “elegant.”

One of the many obnoxious things about how people discuss Israel is they don't take it as just a place where ordinary people live and do ordinary people things but instead a criminal enterprise where every citizen is a vehicle for geopolitical propaganda & affairs. Israeli existence as conspiracy.

As a former ‘old soul’ teenager who dated a man in his twenties, the excuses being given for powerful men to abuse girls younger than I was using technical vocabulary is giving me some kind of feeling.

As always, listen to the workers when they tell you what they want.

I do not cross picket lines, but I do it in the way that the striking workers ask me to.
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Question for @travisbaldree.bsky.social - does yesterday’s new book include the story you were reading at Norwescon a couple of years ago? If not, when do we get more of Zyll, the Most Excellent Chaos Goblin?

I am so godsdamn tired of “takes/does not take AIPAC money” as the new political litmus test. The amount of money they toss around every year is an infinitesimal drop in the bucket compared to even the middleweight players in the lobbying industry.

Yarn is assorted stash leavings, the beads (dewdrops) are standard pony beads. It’s a wall hanging that looks like a forest on an alien planet.
