And you may ask yourself, “Well, how did I get here?”

Just a girldad & husband working in public health. Love a good musical, Boston sports, progressive politics, classic film, etymological tidbits, new wave music, & obsolete technology. Also pretty gay.
I bought this (my first) recording of Porgy and Bess back in high school. Leontyne Price is the reason I originally thought “Summertime” was a Bess song. Still one of my favorites.

I quite like this clever season four promo. Wish this excellent show got more attention.

I played the baritone horn in my middle school band and always fantasized that we would magically gain strings, synth, a drum set, and talent to do Mannheim Steamroller’s rendition of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen for our holiday concert. Ofc I would have taken over the French horn’s lead 😋😂

“At the behest of President Donald Trump” is basically the SCOTUS motto now, so this is no surprise.

Expand the court and impeach the corrupt.
🚨BREAKING: The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, has granted Texas’ request to stay a lower court ruling blocking it from using a heavily gerrymandered congressional map the state legislature passed at the behest of President Donald Trump. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The Roberts Court has completely delegitimized the Supreme Court.

In a democracy, the people get to decide what is constitutional—not a cadre of unelected Republican operatives.

This Supreme Court acts as if the people are irrelevant and they can say the constitution means anything MAGA needs.
According to this Supreme Court:

❌ Using race conscious admissions in college to give minorities a fair shot

✅ Using race to profile people on the street to detain for immigration sweeps

✅ Using race to disenfranchise minorities in elecciones

The only consistency is white supremacy.

Oh.
Wow, Adm. Holsey didn't leave of his own accord, Hegseth pushed him out. What looked like the SOCOM head resigning rather than do war crimes now looks like SecDef canning him to facilitate war crimes.

Congress should have him testify, and would've already if war-crime-sympathetic GOP didn't run it.

Once again, physical media for the win.
We genuinely have people out there who have no idea that you can own stuff and don’t need to pay a subscription for it for the rest of your life.

More Christmas song hot takes:
“Mary nodded” = acceptable
“Then he nodded” = creepy
I feel like if you aren't bringing a sense of humor to your performance of Santa Baby, then you become the joke.

This is so unimportant but: Corona has been riding this Christmas themed ad for over two decades at this point. What I don’t understand is how they messed it up so much with the update. Below is the original. Notice how the lighting is timed after a pause in the whistle. The lights are the punchline

Once again I am here.
I love how casually Meet Me in St. Louis introduces one of the greatest Christmas standards of all time. A lesser film would be completely overshadowed by its genius, being remembered solely for the song itself. As it is, the song is just one perfect component of a perfect whole. #TCMParty

100% this. Perhaps one of my biggest hot takes is that Baby One More Time is one of the greatest pop vocal performances. It’s a weird combination of confidence and vulnerability that brings such a weird fucking tension to the song and is the key to the buildup and release in the chorus. It’s perfect
Britney Spears has a singular pop voice; a mix of R&B balladeer & bravado. she nails a vocal run while inhabiting an exact persona. what she lacks in trained power she more than makes up for in personality. her biggest strength is performance and she deserves more credit for her vocals. the end.
