And if you think American-made software doesn’t have government surveillance backdoors you don’t spend nearly enough time with paranoid Boomer/Gen X former software engineers who were involved in the early open source movement. Also you aren’t worried enough about CORPORATE surveillance.

Tubi is a near perfect simulation of the feeling of watching the 3am movie on your area's fourth-rated local TV station.

For this alone it is the greatest streaming service that has ever been or will ever be.

Tubi and Pluto get more use in my house than any paid streamer except Shudder
Tubi is such a crazy streaming service. It’s like if the Criterion Closet was in a gas station

Okay, I ABSOLUTELY have a sensitivity to cranberries but I’ve been wearing a lipstick with cranberry extract in it with no ill effects so… WTF, body?

people aren’t worried about how these TikToks are going to look to their future employers because they do not plan to HAVE future employers, and if they fail at content creation so badly they have to get jobs, they assume the ephemerality machine will sweep their old content away by then

in China, the “endangering ourselves for the algorithm” content trend bubbled up because rural Chinese did not have other job opportunities & Bytedance was offering money

now look what’s happened to the U.S. job market

Shortform ragebaiting is more viable than getting a job in many places

engaging with TikTok content as if most of it is posted in good faith is a fundamental failure of media literacy in 2025. people openly brag about how much money they make ragebaiting the algorithm.

if TikTok content outrages you, assume it was made for that purpose and that’s how they make money

Trying to function socially in Los Angeles when you’re in the industry or industry-adjacent is so hard.

If I want to get coffee with someone and just have a one-on-one conversation as humans, and I have to arrange it through their assistant… well, I just assume that person doesn’t trust me AT ALL+

A thing I found out when I went to pick up a hold at my local branch last weekend is they also have a compost dropoff station. Which reminds me I also need to look into what my town's doing about compost because I didn't know we have that.

The Kings making a Vatican drama is everything and I hope they have all the archetypes: high level dude gunning for the top job + toadying clerk, the quietly woke dude who helps people get away with technically bad shit (Brother Cadfael 21st century style) and, of course, bitchy guy with vape pen

What's wrong with Nick Fuentes is not that hasn't had sex with a woman. Having sex with women would not make Nick Fuentes less of a misogynistic Nazi. It would SURELY end badly for the women, though.

Same applies if he's gay. His soul & mind are broken, unrelated to what he does w/ his dick.

Kanopy & Libby are also both great reasons to see if your library has any reciprocal agreements. I have three times the Kanopy tickets and access to three different collections on Libby (plus triple the holds there, which is really the best part.)
Reminder that not only do library systems have physical media (& many also lend tools, electronics etc), your library card may give you access to streamers Kanopy and Hoopla. We just watched Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of The Rainmaker via a hoopla the other night. Pretty good!
