As someone who protests regularly, the most common right wing heckling is “who is paying you?” Because they don’t understand doing anything without some personal remuneration.

they think the government forces total adherence to an extreme set of beliefs on a population that would otherwise be radically different because they all grew up in churches that operate exactly that way

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

I talk about witch burning a lot because the modern course of rhetoric at women, and quite specifically trans women, is familiar and terrible.

Wise people learn from their mistakes.
Wiser people learn from the mistakes of others.

My dad: slow-moving, prefers to lurk in nature, talks for great lengths of time, dislikes change, has a beard

My mom: organized, likes gardening

Oh my god, my mom is an Entwife

HEY LA Area people we’re getting our first big rain of the year Monday/Tuesday so here’s the annual reminder for people new to this region: stay off the highways during the first rain, we have such a long dry season they turn extra slippery from months of oil droplets during the first big rain

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

Spent the past week with family for the first time in years. No big event, just a long overdue visit. It was healing.

The urban fantasy novel I never finished was a direct response to Neverwhere. “If London has Below, what does LA have?” I want to go back to it someday, but… *gestures wildly at everything else Gaiman ever did*

The only Whedon I’m keeping is his Much Ado because it’s my favorite Shakespeare comedy and I adore the cast. I understand how his legacy is harder for others to deal with because their relationship to his original creations is deeper and more personal than mine.

9/10 bad guys in children's mystery books are angling for property rights. It's a marvel anyone grows up to be a real estate agent.

Denying entrance to a Eucharistic Procession is to Catholicism kinda like what desecrating the flag is to the American civic religion, except with even more weight of history and tradition behind it!

This is a really, really good act of protest that uses a protest language that has a chance of reaching people who would otherwise dismiss the issue. You can tell by how many former Catholics are seeing it here and having like entire full-body shudders despite having left the church decades ago.

For any Catholic, the sight of a Eucharistic Procession being turned away at the gates of the destination is the embodiment of Jesus being denied entrance. You don't have to be Catholic to get the symbolism in that!

Because boy, howdy, nobody knows ritual and symbolism like the Catholic Church, and having it turned squarely back on the Very Bad Catholics who have been the public standard-bearers of wielding it for evil for so long is really good to see.

I somehow missed the Witcher trailer while I was travelling and now that I’ve seen it I need it all in my eyeballs right now. I’m absolutely good with what I’ve seen of Hemsworth the Younger, and my queens Yen and Ciri look so fucking badass my heart nearly exploded.

Eco? I have two, and those barrels hold a SHITLOAD of ink. The one I keep in my bag for everyday use lasted months between fills and the one I’m using for a project notebook goes for weeks.

Bestie has discovered JetPens and Lamy fountain pens and I’m just like… I’m so very sorry. Welcome. (I favor TWSBI and Pilot and bottled ink, she uses Lamy with cartridges, but ONE OF US)
