And the idea that conservatives need to exist is such a peculiar American invention, brainrot from years of a two party system that has done vastly more harm than good.

Conservatives exist and they have a right to vote. But conservatism doesn't need to exist. They're not some eternal immutable force of cosmic balance. It's a political ideology. And sometimes political ideologies die.

The conservative party has never been sane. CHAOS and COINTELPRO were led by conservative operatives that thought it was normal and good to kill American citizens. In the 1930s conservatives plotted a coup against FDR.

"it is necessary to have a sane conservative party for a democracy to survive" should not be an controversial opinion

It's just murder and no one gives a fuck. What's stopping Trump from blowing up Canadian boats and making the same drug trafficking claims?

Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

everyone needs to internalize that this is just how all republicans are and when nancy pelosi said "the country needs a strong republican party" she meant that more people like this should be powerful. they are all like this! they all think just like this and like trump and they love it and it's fun

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

The only ones who should theoretically be upset are loyalists? So like, old people from Prince Edward County.

I'm sorry, is the Trump Administration talking to a tech platform?

Is it...requesting content moderation?
Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.
The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

You can draw a direct line from Canada's housing crisis to this budget. It was a disaster for everyone except the wealthiest Canadians.

White women falling all over themselves to defend Bari Weiss as some sort of fucking girl boss just showing their whole asses by not even bothering check in with her new employees to find out how the first week went. Spoiler alert: not good. www.status.news/p/bari-weiss...

Bari Weiss’s first major move as CBS News chief has staffers on edge—ordering every journalist to submit a written memo justifying their work, in an apparent Elon Musk-style loyalty test.

I lurk on a GA pilot subreddit. A ton of American doctors. It's the most conservative group I've ever seen.
eric-reinhart.com
New article out this month on how doctors become fascists.

50% of German physicians joined the Nazi Party––twice the proportion of any other profession. US doctors today are arguably the most conservative in the world, and we're heading along a similar path.

Pope Leo quotes Hannah Arendt:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."

I often urge law students to be precise when and where they use passive language, and to notice the work it does when used by others (judges, politicians, reporters, and anyone describing actions being done without actors). This is a great, but awful, example.

Classic CBC. "Bill could lead to law enforcement acting more freely in Canada"

How does a US bill lead to this, without Canada actively allowing this? Can we use the active voice? Can we actually use words the way that journalists are supposedly able to?
