UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

"Depends on the Narrator."

The "narrator" is supposed to be you, @nytimes.com, narrating the factual truth here, instead of regurgitating a deliberate falsehood as if it was a different legitimate perspective on the truth.

A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

I expect our discussion to reach some important features of American health law & policy that have been driven by patient-scientists (e.g., FDA approval processes), as well as important medical technologies invented and advocated by patients & their advocates (e.g., the "artificial pancreas").

Our panel will start at 2:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 16 and will include Fran Visco (National Breast Cancer Coalition), Hilary Koch (diabetes patient advocate), Steve Woloshin (Dartmouth Medicine) & Charles Duan (American U Washington College of Law).

Patients and their loved ones become experts and agents of change; they advocate for new laws, new policies, and new research, and sometimes conduct research themselves to invent new technologies.

"The Consumer Scientist" discussion will bring together patient advocates and professors to discuss some of the ways that consumers of medical technologies—that is, patients—can do much more than merely consume!

Consumers are all over the law: consumer welfare in antitrust, consumer confusion in TM, consumer understanding of art in copyright. But what is The Consumer, really?

On 10/16 and 17, we're going to dig in.....

Conspicuous Consumers: An Engelberg Center Symposium
Over exposed and under explored, consumers play critical roles across a range of legal doctrines. We're giving them their due.

In case anyone thinks this is paranoid, Trump’s junta has defined terrorism to include trespass, naming ICE agents on the internet, and whatever “civil disorder” is.
politically motivated terrorist acts such as organized doxing campaigns, swatting, rioting, looting, trespass, assault, destruction of property, threats of violence, and civil disorder

also, in keeping with Vance’s view of american identity, only white people are fully American with the right to critique or dissent. nonwhites must show proper gratitude (supporting Trump or marrying JD Vance) before they can speak critically of the country (in approved ways, of course)

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
Tweet from the VP:
Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude

Don’t believe anyone who tells you that intelligence shows anything “without a doubt,” but even if the intelligence was water-tight, this strike was still murder. No law permits the deliberate, premeditated killing of civilians.

Most people who write about politics, right or left, have internalized the concept of the Trump supporter as the authentic american Volk and so many of their conclusions proceed from that

I'm so furious at the Democrats who voted to tell lies about Charlie Kirk, including many I have long supported.

No, he was not a “courageous American patriot" and "a model for young Americans across the political spectrum” who was known for “engaging in respectful, civil discourse." 1/3
