This teenager saved his neighbor's dog from drowning in a freezing pond. This is Bernard. His family contacted emergency services right away, but high school senior Hugh Pinneo got to Bernard first. Hugh said he's "just glad I acted that day and saved the dog's life." We are too. 12/10 for all

Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one.
Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

I didn’t know that Puerto Rican Sign Language - as well as Hawaiian Sign Language - are considered endangered. Great article about another barrier that’ll be broken tonight. Sending all the good vibes to the interpreter.

About activism, June Jordan said, “You do something, rather than nothing… You do whatever you can. You reach beyond yourself in your imagination, and in your wish for understanding, and for change. You admit the limitations of individual perspectives. You trust somebody else. You do not turn away.”

Book club reading for January was Salman Rushdie’s memoire, Knife, about the aftermath of the brutal knife attack that blinded him in one eye, among other injuries. A beautiful account for anyone processing and laying claim to their own traumatic experience.

A one-day slowdown is irritating. A one-month slump is terrifying.

With support for abolishing ICE growing and a bipartisan backlash prompting Trump to at least feign a more conciliatory approach in Minnesota, this is the moment to exert pressure. bit.ly/4aoo0an

A friend of mine shared this. It’s sobering to realize how few companies have such deep reach into my life and wallet. I doubt I can go cold turkey on all of these, but I am going to ‘limit the love’ and start cutting ties. (Amazon got my boot last year already!) www.resistandunsubscribe.com

Defenceless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

I want the world to listen.

What russia is doing now by attacking Ukraine’s energy and heating infrastructure in the middle of winter is an attempt to break us, to make us give up and to erase us as a nation.

But no.
We stand.
It’s cold. It’s dark.
We are not heroes.
We stand.

Dear listeners,

When the days feel narrow and the noise gets loud, try a song.
Not as escape — as evidence.
Someone, somewhere, once felt this too and made something that still holds.

If hope is hiding, it often hums first.
