Almost everyone "on the left" doesn't have a problem with machine learning, or technology, or progress. They do have problems with security, safety, mental health outcomes, plagiarism, labor distributions, and environmental & energy impact.

Industry regulation is not some unreasonable leftist ask.

Aided by genAI models like ChatGPT, “writers” hoping to get paid for fake stories have become an even bigger problem for publications big and small. One such writer almost pulled one over on COYOTE — until @soleilho.com, who is a nerd, spotted a key idiosyncrasy.

like the problem isn't SKYNET, the problem is letting amoral extraction class assholes apply half-cooked automation onto deeply broken sectors in exploitative ways in a country that's too corrupt to have functioning regulators

For the largest health insurer in the US, AI's error rate is like a feature, not a bug.

lmfao (derogatory)

i have never even opened Outlook on this machine. i can't imagine what is configured on that god-awful application beyond "the essentials."

i just want a quick way to visualize some dates.

I've defended Windows at times. I do prefer their window management out of the box.

But it is absolutely indefensible that to see a Calendar, you now have to first open "Outlook" and then click "Open Calendar."

What the hell are we doing here?

I also winced at that. not a selling point for me but I suspect I'll still enjoy the game even if I never beat it or intend to. looking forward to reading what critics have to say on this point.

in 2017 a popular twitter game was to type a partial phrase then see what your phone auto-completes it with.

this proved so popular that it is now the only business model in the US.

And be kind to yourself. There's a lot of awful things going on right now and it's hard for anyone who's paying attention.

You should absolutely seek expert help. I benefited enormously from doing so. In the states, it's very common to be able to have brief conversations over the phone before committing to a full appointment. You described a lot of the challenges I faced. DBT helped me a lot. www.youtube.com/dbtru

the immediate zones around train tracks, often industrial-coded, are for my money, the most slept-on liminal spaces.

you've got a really limited perspective from the train car, so you can't always see how you'd get there, even though you totally could with sufficient motivation. fun mystery feel.

This describes a shocking percentage of people at my workplace. It's a generalization, sure, but I see it a lot with younger folks. Typing all day on a tiny little Macbook keyboard with their wrists bent at 45 degree angles feels a whole lot like a recipe for future RSI.

I just cancelled my Nitro subscription. Paying for Discord was my naive attempt to ensure a platform I generally enjoyed using avoid becoming an enshittified version of itself.
The balls Discord has to introduce an age verification update after they already had a major data breach back in October.
