The ‘Transit’ gender clinic in Spain has a 3 WEEK waiting list! 😳😳😳

It covers a population of 8 million, (equivalent to the population of Scotland & Wales combined, or 1/7th of the population of England) It has a total of 43 staff, a majority of whom are part-time, working 6-7 hours per week!

It’s important to understand how this impacts Article 8 protection when such protection is tied to Article 14 protection: we allow individuals not to be subject to forced disclosures so as to precisely not place them in a position where they could be discriminated against. An absolute disaster

Under Article 8 of the ECHR (right to privacy) and Article 14 of ECHR (right not to be discriminated against), rights are enshrined.

Union reps, also have protection under the law regarding dismissal and detriment that this data breach impacts. [3/3]

This is the needle in the haystack: sensitive information under GDPR can cover a range of activities. Membership covering such employment could have drastic ramifications once exposed in the public domain. The ICO is going to be busy with this one.

To add, the membership of this union includes top level civil servants, the defence sector, nuclear sector etc. This isn’t just an equalities disaster - it’s a national security risk. The data could well end up in the hands of a hostile state actor.

To clarify, this might not impact the entire 150k members, but if it has impacted almost the entire BECTU sector, it's widespread in the union and has compromised case files so could impact people and organisations outside the union too.

Notable that members *were* informed of an IT security incident in June, but the detail of what was compromised in that incident has only been given to them today. Either it was a *very* complex investigation or something has gone badly wrong here.
