There's a thin line between insanity and genius; I'd like to think that I walk that line every day of my life. #HPC -er and Principal Solution Architect for NScale - All views are my own

A few morning thoughts...:

- The problem with TV streaming services? Overwhelming choice.

- A DJ mode for @netflix.com would be an excellent addition to make TV more interactive, and less overwhelming.

What do you think?

I had a "moment" this morning, whilst drinking my coffee. It was a realisation of one of the issues with streaming platforms. There's just... Too much choice.…

I have some good news and some bad news for my #HPC friends. Ansys 2025 R1 is now available....
Bad news is that it is now twice the size of 2024 R2 (looking at the number of DVD ISOs compared to last release).
Best of luck to everyone...

Who would have thought that in todays age, I would have to create a secret, base64-encoded to store a simple one-line JSON string to do a github action... Because... I already use secrets so it _must_ be a risk i'm leaking a secret?

What cold hell is this? @github.com please sort this out.

An #AI product idea:

A search-engine that can filter out all #AI-generated content, and fact-check all items prior to displaying search results.

Some people just want the real. The facts. Not opinion, not generated content. The cold, hard, original content so they can make up their own minds.

Today I was annoyed. #cert-manager didn't renew its own #letsencrypt certs...

...So here's a quick-and-dirty cronjob to do it in #K8s.

The cert-manager-sa ServiceAccount needs ClusterRole and ClusterRoleBinding to manage certs, and kubeconfig stored as a secret.

Random request - can someone on a Grace Hopper and/or a Grace Grace system run:

getconf LEVEL1_DCACHE_LINESIZE

for me please.

For that matter, anyone on any latest CPUs too, please.

It'd be very helpful 👍

This... Is VERY cool.

For those of you who have Intel Arc GPUs, Intel has something called AI Playground, which lets you create an image, enhance image, and use LLM like Qwen2-1.5B-Instruct. It also creates an embeddings for RAG.

The #WHPC breakfast at #CIUK2024 with @tobiasweinzierl.bsky.social discussing situations putting off contributors to coding was inspiring, and highlighted that comms in collaborative coding projects, are key.

PRs rejected/corrected on review often highlights poor comms prior to the PR.

What a great time at #CIUK2024 this year!

Great attendance, the atmosphere was excellent and there were some fantastic sessions.

The party atmosphere this year was pretty special.

People talk about the applications of #AI and almost always reference how much it can generate - I don't want AI to do the creative things for me; I want it to do the menial tasks for me that I don't want to do, freeing me up to be more creative.

Give me an AI weekly food shopper.

Here's one for you lot working on #K8s...

...Has anyone noticed that Pod livenessProbe's findPortByName function has recently stopped working?

I've had to change the name in my livenessProbe back to the actual port, or I get:

Liveness probe errored: strconv.Atoi: parsing "http": invalid syntax

This is what happens with #HPC chiller doors when you get hotspots in racks... Now there's a good explanation in a visual format people can show and highlights the importance of matching flow! 😂
Amazing blog post on flow matching, stunning visuals! It also makes the connection with normalising flows crystal clear. Incredible effort!
Anne Gagneux, Ségolène Martin, @quentinbertrand.bsky.social Remi Emonet and I wrote a tutorial blog post on flow matching: dl.heeere.com/conditional-... with lots of illustrations and intuition!

We got this idea after their cool work on improving Plug and Play with FM: arxiv.org/abs/2410.02423

A throwback to 20 years ago, releasing GCOS for the #GameCube...!

Reverse-engineering, working out how things work, and making stuff like this was fun - And if anything, probably got me more into digging right into hardware than ever (and so probably got me working in #HPC in a roundabout way).

Charitable act of the day done...!

Code changes and improvements don't always have to be huge sweeping changes. Sometimes they can be little things, like this.

If you can see something quick to fix? Do it. Like the tube stations say...: See it, Say it, Sorted.

Great job for Team UKSCC, winning this years #SC24 IndySCC on debut!

Some of these started out in the #CIUK Student Cluster Challenge competition, so it's great that we can show that our best in the UK can go head to head on the world stage and compete.
Congratulations to Team UKSCC on winning this year's #SC24 IndySCC!
