Non-important NPC dialogue is a great place to hide some additional story bits, world lore, or just fun character stuff in general. And it's honestly one of the most fun aspects of game development.

Probably the worst of them all is the Ring doorbell.

It’s sold as safety, but it’s much more about fear and paranoia in a box that turns you against your community. The more of them in the world, the worse our neighborhoods get. Don’t help the spiral continue.

Speaking of a reindeer taking down grandma, a Ring doorbell might be able to capture that kind of footage so you have proof of what happened. But like with the smart speaker, there’s so much more that comes with that purchase. Amazon — and other companies pushing camera doorbells — want you to think they’re making you safer by giving you insight into what’s happening around your home. Ring doorbell ads often also try to make them appear fun, with people putting on a show for the doorbell. But that’s little more than a public relations campaign. For me, the camera doorbell is the perfect example of a technology that makes people believe they’re safer when really making them more paranoid and anxious as they see their neighborhood and community with deep and unwarranted suspicion. People become aware of things that had already been happening around their home for ages without them knowing about it and they become like big brother, spying out everything once the camera detects movement. It gets even worse when this paranoia meets social media, whether through snitching apps like Nextdoor or the spread of clips on platforms like Facebook that convince others to fear their surroundings and vastly overestimate the amount of crime happening in their vicinity.

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Talita: Er… there’s… blood… But it doesn’t hurt when the skin comes off. After the bone finishes growing, there’s not really any pain receptors left. Adam, who is standing to her left, looks up at her resentfully. Adam reaches up and grabs Talita's antler, yanking on it hard enough to swing her head around. He smiles smugly. Adam: So you can't feel this? Talita recoils from him with a hand in front of her face, staring in shock. Yao gapes and then looks away fearfully from the two of them. Talita: What the fuck⁇ He throws his hands up defensively, still smiling. Adam: Hey, calm down!I thought you said it doesn’t hurt! Talita's face bristles in rage. Talita: What!? That doesn't mean you can YANK on me! Adam: Ugh, ok! Since you grabbed me, I thought you'd be fine with it! He waves a hand dismissively and walks off, flanked by Phoebe and Dominic. Yao follows after them at a distance, looking back at Talita uncertainly. Phoebe and Dominic whisper to Adam, still unaware Talita can hear them. Phoebe: You trying to get fired? Dominic: Screw that– are you trying to get gored?? Adam: Whatever. We’re getting “fired” soon either way. It’s not like it’s gonna use those things, anyways. Talita tenses at his words with an electric shock of fury, gripping her face and clenching her jaw as if she could curl inwards until she imploded. Then the temps are gone. She slumps down to the floor of the changing area. The massive vehicle bay room is empty.
