I was excited to check out the guild wars reforged launch since I had either bought or been gifted the trilogy aaaaages ago and literally never played it, and they were adding controller support, but couldn't reset the password on the email I used for GW2 back in the day nor create a new one all day

"valve is within their rights" is the most cowardly possible "I just want to shut down conversation" response imaginable to this whole thing. You can justify literally anything with "they're within their rights". things that are harmful to games, to art, to society, may well be "within rights".
