music dork, movie nerd, tv junkie, gaming goofus...opinions mine, unfortunately. For work I spend lots of time surveying public opinion on all kinds of stuff. Also: St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, Mizzou, and Tottenham Hotspur. #COYS

"You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" -- due to the difference in tone/aggression between the verse and chorus -- absolutely should've gotten a grunge cover. Is deserving of a postpunk cover.
And this one. It's very good. And then the song "Baby You're Just You" comes at the end and it goes trascendent. I swear to goodness, the solo at the end of that song is the most searing encapsulation of 20something angst and frustration ever recorded.
My most-played record from that year and still a monster. Mark Lanegan as a deeper-voice grunge version of Burton Cummings (the Guess Who), and it completely and absolutely works:
Ack, that last one should've had "Album cover for Wedding Present's "Bizarro" album"

Here's another great record from that year, more UK indie pop at the tail end of C-86...
Have already seen a bunch of my faves here -- De La, Pixies, J&MC, Galaxie 500 -- but a few others that hit me hard that year. (It me, college radio music director, 1989):
And also the fantastic 1989 "answer" album to PB, with one of the greatest diss tracks of all time -- aimed at the Beasties for "selling out" of the East Coast scene for LA: "Sons of 3rd Bass". Bonus points for the guest appearances of Zev Love X -- a/k/a a young MF Doom:
I am not unconvinced that big online sports books don't run player prop bets as honeypot traps to catch athletes engaging in prohibited gambling activity.
Was heading out for the evening constitutional and passed by the local bottle shop across the street and...what's that I spy in the window? Yes. Yesssss.

First case of 2025 enboughtened. The most magical time of the year is upon us!
Sounds like pretty much every day here at ol' Bluesky...
Not sure if Drinkwitz has as many Grim Reaper trophies as Gary Pinkel or Barry Odom had at Mizzou before him...but he might be adding Hugh to his collection by Monday.
You *literally* cheer for a team that has a campus landmark called "Touchdown Jesus."
Not exactly one for the Louvre, but Mizzou somehow messes their way to a win at Auburn.

Vandy looms next week. I don't think this team has that kind of juice.
My very hottest music take is that if Wilco had kept Jay Bennett post-YHF and sacked Jeff Tweedy instead, their musical output across the last two decades would be one hell of a lot more interesting and rewarding to listen to.
With all the Mike Schildt news coming out, I feel like were gonna get reaaaaally close to hearing the reason why Mo felt the Cardinals needed to trade Randy Arozarena in the 2019 off-season.
(And kudos to Gabrielle for taking the lead in safe-guarding her brother's memory and being extremely careful what projects/compilation/biographies etc. will be authorized.)
Her resemblance to her then unknown, now exponentially more famous brother are incredible.

Oh, I know that STL needs more parking lots like the Sahara needs more sand. I just thought it was funny that this thing that already looks like a parking lot was being described as a "green space".
I mean...describing that place as a "park" at this point is pretty silly. It's a bunch of concrete with a big ugly fence around it. The alderwoman describing it as a "green space" clearly hasn't seen what it actually is...which is a vacated concrete blight.
Great new song. And also: that's definitely an old clip of the band playing Strat-O-Matic baseball about a minute into the video....
Sugar are not only playing live in NYC and London next year(!!!) - there is a RIPROARING new single, “House of Dead Memories.” Amazing news! youtu.be/-S72djtUIFk?...

Well now, would you look at that?

A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.
We are nearly through week 6 of the NFL season and I basically have no idea which teams are any good.
Doug Eddings had a fairly shaky first inning in this game.

He's somehow managed to get worse as the game's gone on.

(I have no rooting interest here -- and he's cost both teams.)
About the only local pop-culture facing thing about Eliot being a St. Louisan by birth is his star on the U-City Loop / St. Louis Walk of Fame
Time for all the Joe Buck extra inning apocalyptic sun memes!
