music dork, movie nerd, tv junkie, gaming goofus...opinions mine, unfortunately. For work I spend lots of time surveying public opinion on all kinds of stuff. Also: St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, Mizzou, and Tottenham Hotspur. #COYS
For whatever reason, he didn't want Penn State, and wanted to stay in the SEC. He was 2nd or 3rd choice at LSU, Auburn, and maybe Florida. It's possible he could've been left standing and without a chair when the music on the 2025 coaching carousel stopped..

Well, that contract now puts him in the 8-figure club. His staff salary pool will be top 4 (currently, but things change fast!) in the SEC.

And college football is different now. NIL has changed the sport as dramatically as conference realignment did.

I'm not sure he's taking any gamble at all.

The contract details haven't been fully posted, and likely won't for another day or two, so no one knows what the buyout is, but presumably the raise he's getting is to pay for that to be pretty prohibitive.

Also the entire song "Feed 'Em To the (Linden) Lions" feels like it might be about a high school team in Northern California...of which Aaron Judge is an alum.

(My third spin of Crooked Rain back in the day, when I realized "Dad they broke me" was a tennis reference...)

For a while (and it may still be going) there was a Fantasy Baseball league with Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo, Steve Wynn of the Dream Syndicate, I think maybe Gerard Cosloy from Matador Records was in... other folks from that 1980s-1990s underground scene....

(Also, hope the neck feels better soon!)

One risk, for sure. The other is: what if Dink starts posting 4-win seasons or 3-win seasons or worse? That contract that marries him to CoMo becomes a big ol' smelly albatross.

OTOH...if Truman wants to play, this is probably how they've got to go about it. And they may want to play...

? PSU job still open. They were well aware that Drink preferred to stay in the SEC if possible...and also aware that while he wasn't the 1st choice for LSU, Auburn, or Florida, he was probably the 2nd choice at one of two of those...and thus wanted him to either say "yes" now, or never.

There's some smoke that Penn State made him an offer, but it was contingent on his acceptance during -- not after -- the Mizzou regular season and on that he turned them down and parlayed it into this new commitment.

This has been your incredibly tongue-in-cheek, snarky house decs update heading into Thanksgiving and a weekend of snow, rain, and cold temps that are a bummer to have to put up decs in the middle of. 12/12

(You and your car will be safe if you park; you are exponentially more likely to be offered a can of Natty or Busch Light or a cup of hot cocoa from a friendly neighbor than experience anything untoward. Also: many dogs to say hi to and pet...) 11/

And if you do come down, my best advice is to dress warm, park and walk. Do not even attempt to come near the intersection of Jamieson & Chippewa between 4pm and 7pm. 10/

(I grew up in the STL suburbs. Moved away for 25 years and lived and loved my neighborhoods in Chicago, DC, and Connecticut. But South St. Louis during the holidays is just *magical*. It's worth seeing.) 9/

Also as of last night, the always-amazing Christmas lights display at Our Lady Of Sorrows church on South Kingshighway at Rhodes was still dark. Once this is up and lit, it's worth parking and walking around if you're not already on foot. Trust me. 8/

Elsewhere from last night's 7 mile jaunt: Northampton always stepping up. Mardel and Lindenwood from Sulphur east to Macklind (and beyond) really starting to show out. Down Macklind through the shopping district east and west, starting to get a glimpse... 7/

Reindeer Road: Ok, last year some folks on I think either Devonshire or Landsdowne between Prague and either Childress or all the way up to Donovan gave it a good go, trying to start their own tradition. This year it looks pretty lean, but let's see what happens in the next week. 6/

Wonderland Way (Walsh from Clifton to Tamm): Always more low-key than others, but they're already outshining Angel Avenue a wee bit. 5/

Angel Avenue (Prague from Murdoch out to Nottingham): We really need some help here. Some positive signs, but this weekend is gonna suck for putting up holiday decs if someone hasn't already. Just sayin'. 4/

Snowflake Street (Neosho from Donovan to Ivanhoe): a work in progress, but has lit up leaps and bounds from where it was Friday. They look to be ready. Still waiting on Neosho from Ivanhoe out to Jamieson to show up though. 3/

Candy Cane Lane (Murdoch btw Donovan and Nottingham) is absolutely up and running and set to go. The OG House Dec street is as good, if not more garish than years past. 🙂 Murdoch east of Donovan needs some love, but those folk usually step up all the way through to the intersection with Clifton. 2/
