Here we go again
"The deals you want to be involved in require discretion, trust, handshakes, privacy. This book announces that you are willing to sell all of these for a farthing" is such a perfect summary of Mandelson. The world's most notorious sex trafficker was a better judge of character than the current PM

I presume there was a meeting where they realise it's total shit but they have to plough on as it's too late to change course and they spent all the money already because surely no one signs off on it willingly?

Honestly thought I was looking at some sort of Cold War Steve shitpost at first

Xfinity has just released its Jurassic Park-themed Super Bowl ad that features a digitally de-aged Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. https://bit.ly/4rmRhrK

Gene Roddenberry: I invented Romulan Ale as a cautionary tale

Pakistani distillery: At long last, we have created Romulan Ale from the classic Star Trek episode "Don't Drink The Romulan Ale"

This is an all-time heckle, up there with Gough Whitlam's response to "I'm a Country member"

What's wrong babe? You've barely touched your stained glass England shirt

After reading this all I could think of was this Tweet

Think part of it comes down to that Tumblr meme about the two meanings of "respect". MAGA interpreted respect for the dead as the with-reverence-and-fealty version not just with-politeness version and then tried to foist it on everyone
just thinking again about how MAGA’s attempt to suppress all criticism of Charlie Kirk created a backlash so intense that he is now probably the most abjectly Internet-defiled person in human history
genuinely Charlie Kirk may have been more degraded and demeaned by the Internet at this point than anyone else in human history

the universe is not always unjust

Did it actually sink? Or has it been secretly towed to the Gare Loch, where it is now lurking?
January 21, 2026 at 2:02 PM
It's the "surrounding" that gets me the most, as if there are floating Chinese restaurants anchored off the coast around Faslane, waiting to pounce

Don't forget the enormous piece of blank space when opening the app: bsky.app/profile/goon...
@metoffice.gov.uk Can you talk me through the design decision to have this enormous space at the top of the new app’s forecast page, forcing us to scroll down for most of the information?
January 15, 2026 at 11:18 AM
What's with the large negative space at the top third, forcing important information below the fold? And why do you have your logo at the bottom of the screen needlessly obscuring that same info? People rely on this app for their lives and livelihoods, design like this is actively harmful

Big fan of whichever sub-committee at the Met Office went "for the new app design, let's put our logo in three different places on the screen, so people know what app they're using. And let's put the bottom one floating over actually useful info, that makes perfect sense"

There was a similar case in the UK. I keep a scan of this newspaper article about it on my phone, to cheer me up with a quick laugh whenever I am down

rip in advance to Scott "Mr Dilbert" Adams who is perhaps most famous for writing a now-deleted four part blog post where he attempted to hypnotize his readers into nutting and asked them to email him after they have nutted to tell him about the nut.

Gone down a rabbit hole, the man had never-ending lore it seems
Rest in piss, Scott Adams.

Or maybe it was the failure of the Dilberito that radicalised him en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_A...

Still wondering at which point in his life Scott Adams went completely off the deep end. Maybe it was when he started writing his non-comic books about religion and started fantasising (post-9/11) about holy wars & a clash of civilizations. Got too high on his own supply.

He used to have some very interesting critiques of the system, and I still wonder what made him go off the deep end
