Sometimes I make marmalade.
Yep, this is Girlguiding. We can organise anything, we know how to make a noise, and we promise to be true to ourselves. It's quite the combination 🏳️‍⚧️❤️🏳️‍⚧️
Seeing my parents organise camps and other activities week in, week out. These leaders know how to do logistics.

And I'm fascinated to see how that translates to protests and further work in their movement to fight against this ban.

Girl guiding has a protest badge for a reason.

Ugh, I am so gutted that Girlguiding has had to capitulate to hate and will no longer be open to trans girls and women. The one thing giving me hope is the sheer reluctance with which they have done this. We have always been for all girls, and for all girls we should remain.

We have a local gelato farm (it's Derbyshire, that's how we roll) that has been flying the English flag for the last while. Now they're displaying this email on the wall, no reply, with the full email of the customer visible. I'm... not sure there's a pleasant explanation for this, is there.

This week has featured both a shitty hospital experience (St Mary's) and a surprisingly delightful one (Stepping Hill A&E). All of which is to say, I am full of drugs but no longer have a uterus or a pelvis full of deep-infiltrating endometriosis, and I love the NHS.

I love our GP surgery’s triage form, which includes the question, “Is there anything you are particularly worried about?” It doesn’t SAY it has to be related to the medical problem, so I think I did v well not to list rise of fascism etc as well as more relevant concerns.

Trying to pay the power bill for a house that stood empty (so minimal power used). EDF have used half a tree to post me repeated incorrect bills, all based on estimates for an occupied property, despite me giving them regular meter readings. Why world why.

I was off work for 7 weeks recently, because The Departmental Bully turned his attentions to me. I am in.fucking.awe of the colleague who reported him for same, because her bravery means that I was believed immediately and I now don't have to work with him (and not because I've been moved sideways)

Not quoting because too many characters, but the "significant number" of people who were not granted asylum and whose accommodation is being funded: how many people is this, actually, and why is it so hard to find out?

Ah, it's time for my annual refusal to take part in the village Remembrance parade. Great stuff.

Will the RW media remember the driver and conductor of the Huntingdon attack, and how many lives they saved, the next time train companies try to eliminate staff and they strike, citing passenger safety?

I had a really great work-related experience yesterday. It may come to naught; but even if it does, I felt really appreciated and recognised for what I do and what I have the potential to do in the future. So that's nice.

Great historical bilingual pun. Last week I learned that the French left wing would caustically refer to the appeasement-pushing British PM as “Monsieur J’Aime Berlin”. I mean, that’s classy.
FACT OF THE DAY. 3 September 1939. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain announced on BBC radio at 11:15 AM that Germany had not responded to the British ultimatum to remove its troops from Poland and so “this country is at war with Germany”.

Bad thing: MOAR TERRIBLE EMAILS from dreadful not!boss, who claims I have ideas above my station
Good thing: formidable women telling me exactly how great I am
Great thing: invitation to do a guest lecture next semester whoop whoop (bet he'd think that was above my station, too...)

An absolute masterclass from UK Quakers on how organisations of all kinds can stand up for the rights and safety of trans people, even post Supreme Court ruling and with all of the EHRC's cruelties:

In the last week, we've started a homemade cake swap with my stepkids' dad whereby we use the (adult) kids as cake mules when they go to and from his house for dinner. This is the sort of queer familying that makes my heart sing.

Really sucks that the term "AI" gets used for both genAI hyped by tech bros and rigorous ML tools made by researchers & used in applied epi, healthcare, weather modelling etc. that can actually save lives

This bank holiday weekend, I discovered that there's a whole group of people who are extremely keen to defend cis men's rights to be naked in public in a way that makes me super uncomfortable to witness when I have a 10yo in tow.

The arrogance of saying "Labour needs to actively cause harm to marginalised communities because that's what ordinary people want" is astounding. They don't. When you look at their policies in context, they chose to push them. It is not "aloof" to call out bullshit.

They've finally demolished OP! I'm actually really sad that they didn't swing an actual wrecking ball through it.

I note @jon4highpeak.bsky.social isn't one of them. Why not, Jon?
108 Labour MPs have signed the reasoned amendment, including key figures like Meg Hillier (Treasury select committee chair), Debbie Abrahams (Work and Pensions select committee chair), and former transport secretary Louise Haigh. This is over a quarter of Labour's MPs. So far.
