No safety tool would have been able to prevent the extreme bleed that O/U induced in many.

But the whole community took care of each other, and, more than that, the constant bleed led to incredible moments of roleplaying, storytelling, and out-of-character connection.

The bleed was the game.
"Players reported dreaming about Over/Under, losing sleep, even forgetting to eat."

@lincodega.com writes about the intensity of Mothership Month's hyperbaric roleplay experience and the bleed that resulted from a lack of conventional safety tools.
Thirty Days of Bleed
Within a high-pressure, nonstop roleplaying game, denizens of Over/Under found it difficult to extricate their character’s emotions from their own.

today instead of buying barely discounted crap, get a paid subscription to an independent media outlet! a little $ goes a long way towards supporting a free press. 🗞️

drop links to your own or your faves in the replies so ppl can easily sign up (bonus if you add a couple words about why it’s good!):

Great insights in here if you're a current or hopeful exhibitor of non-tabletop conventions. As I heard from many, Thought Bubble was "ehhh" for sales, but offered invaluable connections and vibes.

Sometimes the balance isn't all numbers.
Lovely to chat with Chase at Thought Bubble earlier this month! This is an excellent read, looking at the primarily comics-focused convention through the eyes of a TTRPG lover.

A good piece to read alongside my post-con post-mortem for Thought Bubble as well:

Thought Bubble left me conflicted. It was not the comics convention I had hoped to find, but it was nonetheless joyful, celebratory, and really fucking cool.

One day I'll invite a bunch of friends to a weekend cabin in the woods where we will play through an entire session of City of Winter. It will be a perfect, crystalline experience.
New Quinns Quest review is a boxed RPG special! 📦✨

I dunno folks, I think running RPGs out of 400 page hardback books might be dumb and bad

Insightful answers herein to Aaron's question, which I'm not qualified to tackle.

But it is interesting that tabletop designers have enough perceived commonality to engage with the idea of "design eras". Something I hardly ever see from players/consumers.
What's the flavour of the current era of TTRPG design? Social Media Refragmentation? Is it a consolidation cycle? What are the new upcoming designers struggling with and against now?

Just piggybacking off @chasecarter.bsky.social 's excellent piece on themed crowdfunding months - if any designers or creators have any thoughts about this, particularly the close proximity of themed months and Topias next year on Backerkit, please hit me up! [email protected]
Themed crowdfunding months provide creative ways to bring together associated tabletop creators and raise consistent money.

But as the trend spreads, the calendar is beginning to feel mighty crowded.

Reminder that MÖRKTOBER is a 100% free communal and art/writing-focused initiative to get people making stuff. It's not on, or affiliated with, any crowdfunding platform. There's no money involved. This quote doesn't claim that, but just thought I'd mention it, just in case.

Here's a longer report for Rascal on DriveThruRPG's new shipping program for physical books, and how several folks in the tabletop industry see it as a bad deal for them altogether
DriveThruRPG's new Partner Shipping Program has drawn criticism from several corners of the tabletop industry, with professionals calling it "a half solution" and an “outright a bad deal”.
DriveThruRPG’s offset print option proves unpopular among small creators
Many cite the steep revenue cut without fulfillment support as a key issue.

Exciting news! Thanks to our sale, we've rocketed all the way up to over 4,900 paying subscribers. This means we can cross another goal, a regular columnist, off our list. We plan to sort out the exact specifics in our own time, but for now, who do you think would be a good fit?

Can’t possibly say how incredible it feels to be quoted in a Rascal piece, especially with such a lofty title as “crowdfunding researcher” (as accurate as the sorry that follows it lmao)

Asmodee's CEO wants to use more crowdfunding because of its risk insulation and reliable consumer hype. When retail fails, these platforms are backup for the industry's biggest publishers.

This is the ugliest version of Dallas, removed from (and willfully ignorant of) the city's immigrant populations. In fact, the exurbs are laminated rings of christofascist flight away from any other reality. They leave highways, burnt lawns, and empty strip malls on their way further north.
Dallas is the future of America-- physically, spiritually, and politically. I went to the fastest-growing city in America to see what is in store for us all.
Today, the final part of my story: Sprawling to Freedom.
