Ex Maths Teacher now working in ITT
Working in ITT, I feel a bit further removed from the impact of my role (compared with classroom teaching). But a couple of really positive things today have made me see how far some trainees have come this term and how positively that will be impacting students in their classrooms ☺️

In #MathsToday Y13 filled this normal distribution table #ALevelMaths

I love this resource, especially when students get to the second one of the bottom row and get stuck, at which point I usually prompt them to look for where 0.7778 appears elsewhere. But today, that didn’t happen…

In #MathsToday I used stem sentences to support teaching of expanding brackets. I was pleasantly surprised to hear pupils respond to questions using the structure of the stem sentence without me prompting them to do so. Would love to hear others' experiences of stem sentences in secondary maths.

After #MathsToday I created a new fill in the blanks generator on Normal Distribution.

www.interactive-maths.com/normal-distr...

You can choose what is revealed / hidden for any randomly generated distribution by clicking. Easy to screenshot into a presentation, or use live.

Teaching circumference of a circle to Y9 in #MathsToday and enjoyed a bit of “always, sometimes, never”. Loved the discussion that this created and the thinking of is it/is not examples

Anyone know of any sites offering free “grade 9” or bronze, silver, gold gcse maths papers? I’m sure these were once a thing but can’t really find now #MathsToday

This has been my worry all along with the breakfast club nonsense. You can talk about funding all you like, the long and the short of it is that school leaders end up with another job on the list, another extension to their working day, and the job becomes ever harder...
And this is from DfE advice!

In 2020 Keir Starmer and Alf Dubs urged the then Conservative Government to restore their commitment to family reunion for child refugees, saying there was a “moral argument” to protect desperately vulnerable young people.

Five years later Dubs condemns Starmer for doing the complete opposite

In #mathstoday I’ve been desperately trying to find some short videos I remember on the maths needed in various careers, aimed at KS3/4 (rather than A Level which I can find on AMSP
@meimaths.bsky.social ) I’m sure one featured Grove Lodge Vets in Brighton. Any ideas anyone pls? Or similar?

I think somehow it's going to take a lot more then that.

But yes, that would be welcome.

Calling excel wizards: is there a way to make like a macro thingy that can combine certain data from two different spreadsheets. ie, I want to take a report I run each week (Sparx homework) and add a field from second spreadsheet (admission number) in order to make a mail merge CSV?

spent last week thrashing out expanding brackets with a grid/area model last week with grade 1-3 yr 10s, felt like I was going nowhere fast and encountering lots of difficulties.

This morning did reverse process to factorise with same model. Insane success rate.

This rings true for me and I didn’t realise it until after the fact. Once I was back in a school that took T&L seriously, I realised that at my 2nd school, my teaching had stagnated for 2 years.
