This is my favorite slide to open up my U.S. Congress courses with to quantitatively prove to my students how much I unironically care about Congress. It's my daily average heart rate from my Apple Watch over a 5-yr period. The #1 highest day in that period is circled in red.

as i keep saying, the things to do to secure elections are to volunteer to work the polls or to serve as an observer, & to pressure your *state representatives* to take steps to further secure voting locations and ballots. you should also learn about how election administration works in your area.

Interesting trend unfolding in this cycle's special elections (data courtesy of @the-downballot.com). In 2018, Dems way overperformed on average in heavily GOP districts; slightly in more competitive ones; and not at all in heavily Dem districts.

In 2026, they're gangbusters in all three.

Put another way: even if fraud *was* rampant and undocumented immigrants *were* voting in droves, putting the president in charge of election administration would still be a completely fucked idea
Such pernicious framing in NYT. The first sentence is accurate. The second (with “however”) suggests a counterpoint to the first. But even if the charges of fraud are *correct* the second is emphatically *not* a counterpoint. Presidents have no control over election administration, period.

You are all ABSOLUTELY entitled to your correct opinion that Chuck Schumer's messaging sucks.

But don't waste your time whining while he bought you two weeks. Bc this is legislative success.
🚨 The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.

This is Jeb-meme-level domination
LOL. Despite this being a Harris+71 seat, Democrat Meg Luger-Nikolai won tonight by a *91-point* margin. Easily one of the wildest overperformances we’ve ever seen, given the district’s deep, deep blue lean.
Couple of special elections in very blue districts in the Twin Cities area tonight, though only one is contested. It's a +71 Harris seat, so hard for Democrats to overperform when the margins are already so lopsided, but we'll see.

I'm so frustrated with my beloved Congress that I started a podcast about it with SoRelle Gaynor. Each week, we'll break down the biggest story on the Hill in 30 minutes or less with a dash of polisci.

First episode of Highway to Hill drops next Friday. highwaytohill.substack.com/p/trailer-ho...

There are 690 separate polling locations, for 1703 voting divisions, just in the City of Philadelphia. And Pennsylvania law specifies that LEOs cannot be within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling location unless (a) they're there to vote or (b) have been asked to come in to break up a fight.
