Superb & eviscerating take on the situation at CBS by John Oliver and @lastweektonight.com. As I’ve noted, the new billionaire owners create a mirrortocracy, pretend it’s a meritocracy & hire a mediocrity to get there. But it is not about innovating & supporting journalism.

I appreciate @mndarkclouds.bsky.social taking into account my bike’s color scheme for the new awesome bike jersey. Much cheaper to be matchy matchy this way than having to change the bike’s paint. As I’m in 🇩🇪 now, I’m representing the “Everywhere” part of the Dark Clouds when out on the road.

Finished House of Guinness. While the sets were pretty, it just felt empty. A better period piece around brewing was Oktoberfest 1900, also by Netflix. I’m guessing that success is what convinced Netflix to produce this but it feels formulaic and lifeless, which is a shame.

Is this description of the tv show House, accurate?

“A brilliant asshole, who happens to be a doctor.”

If Major League Soccer doesn’t care enough to watch their own games in order to write about them, why should we watch their games?

As someone whose time freelancing for MLSsoccer was a vital step in my career progression, and someone who generally gleans insight from the observations of others:

This sucks so hard.
MLS is using generative AI to write match recaps. Writers used to get paid freelance rates to do that. Hssssss.

The President using the military as his personal police force to intimidate American citizens is deeply un-American. This is the behavior of an autocrat. Full stop.

Some pictures from today’s ride
Awesome new bike jersey courtesy of the Dark Clouds. The small preserved Russian style houses just outside of Potsdam’s center. Stahnsdorfer Straße, a Fahrradstraße (a bike street) where only cars of residents are allowed. The leaves are changing a beautiful yellow.

Good guys win 0-1 on a well earned penalty after playing a whole half down a man. But the ending isn’t without controversy when on the final kick of the game the goalie punches out the corner and Stern player runs into it. After the match the player had to be carted off the field via ambulance.

Half time 0-0 but the good guys got a red card right before the half due to a really hard challenge. (It was orange in my book but I’m biased. But I did hear the foul from all the way up in the cheap seats.)

Ok, this art in the bar might be cooler than Wannsee.

Also, I feel lucky that for the vast majority of my son’s games, I’ve had the opportunity to watch him grow since he was 4 until now. Will miss these days when they’re gone.

Yes I read three of the buildings are going up. I hope the rest of the vision is realized too for the neighborhood. 15 min. city sounds pretty cool.

FC Stern has raised the stakes by not only having a bar at the field but a casino. (MN should never have passed the sports betting law.)

While I’ll always ride with a helmet in 🇩🇪, I think the respect and safety here comes from there being such a high percentage of drivers also being everyday cyclists.

Even though nobody wears bike helmets in the Netherlands, the fatality rate there is significantly smaller than that of the United States. What have they figured out that we haven't?
How I Learned to Cycle Like a Dutchman
In the bike-friendly Netherlands, cyclists speed down the road without fearing cars. For an American, the prospect is thrilling—and terrifying.
