wishlist my game plz i'll love you forever
ICYMI, we released our demo last week! ✨

As Canadians, we are almost due for the grey, the cold, and the mush. But... what if you had a window into a gorgeous balcony of plants both alive and undead where you can cast spells, avoid errands, and try to pet ghost bees?

Still ongoing, my novel Star Sword Nemesis is 10% off! It's a real science fiction-ass science fiction novel about the ideology of human transcendence, a wouldbe hero with a crush on her mecha-fighting teacher, and the distance between people. loveconquersallgames.itch.io/star-sword-n...

Obscure game question for you: have you ever played a PC game called "Watchy"? Even better, do you have a copy? It was sold in boxes that look like this.

Got desperately stuck at the absolute final section of a level in a game, and happened to notice on Backloggd that the only review is someone else saying they couldn't make the final jump either. I actually think this might be bugged...? Not sure this game is *beatable*.

Haven't discounted my games on itch, but if you buy a copy of Virtue's Heaven at full price, you're effectively gifting a free copy to someone who cannot afford it (=buying the game adds a community copy):

Man, Koodo customer support is the worst. You can't phone them to get to a representative anymore, you have to go through their chatbot. But their chatbot is broken - the button to set up a call with a rep breaks with a CORS error (?!) when it tries to make a call to a non-allowlisted domain.

Been listening to Soundshock 3 again. It's funny, when it came out I think I had the “maybe this isn't as good as the first two" reaction - but that's because it had been years, and I'd had so so much time to listen to them. Feels like I'm starting to develop that relationship with 3 by now.

This line from Video Games (Apr 83) was too prescient. One of the more frustrating things to me about the state of video game preservation is what feels like a general lack of interest in pre-'80s games; I will never stop banging the drum about the importance of '70s games (especially Death Race).

BTW I don’t think this means you can’t make a game in an “old” genre taking inspiration or mechanics from new games. But you have to do it because you have a coherent vision for your game and why this makes it interesting as a game, rather than because “people won’t try it if I don’t“
People who have heard about these kinds of games want to see them for what they are; trying to sand off pieces to appeal to "modern audiences" can actually alienate new players who wanted to try the games as-is, while not actually bringing in people who are otherwise turned off by them.

Awhile back a friend was describing the mdoern parser game scene as "historical reenactment", and it's making me think about niche action genres too. I see a lot of devs making games in these genres trying to modulate their design so they're more accessible to modern audiences, which rarely works...
