@septa-social.bsky.social There’s no sign at 3rd and Market indicating that the 17 is not stopping there. Several people waiting on it as it made this detour.

In 2008, my mother donated a box of family records to the Holocaust Museum. Do I know anyone who can visit the reading room in Bowie, MD & make scans? Compensated, of course. Recommendations welcome! collections.ushmm.org/search/catal...

So very sad for my alma mater. Some of the most prestigious programs. Not shown here, but I understand the world famous Historical Performance Institute (Early Music Institute when I was there) will no longer be accepting majors either.
So, here it is. Thanks to a new state law that was NEVER DEBATED, Indiana University has committed itself to abolishing majors in African-American/African Diaspora Studies: American Studies; Art History; French; Italian; Religious Studies etc. DOZENS of majors. www.ipm.org/news-section...
Indiana public colleges cut almost 20% of degrees
Public Indiana colleges and universities have eliminated 19 percent of their degree programs to meet requirements added to the state’s budget, according to the Commission for Higher Education.

I actually got this driver and his Eagles-themed car on a Lyft ride home one night in April. It was so wild! I wasn’t sure @riversaredamp.bsky.social would believe me so I recorded a bit of the ride to show him. I’ll post my video in the thread.

It screeches like an eagle, has a replica Lombardi Trophy, and is the most sought-after ride in Philly. Unless you’re a Cowboys fan.
You’ll likely hear Mucha Nama’s minivan before you see it. From playing “Fly, Eagles Fly” to adorning it with decorations, his Birds mobile is a hit — for most of his customers.

So we did a thing… 🧵

You’ve heard about the erasing of LGBTQ history on National Park Service websites. Egregious changes made to the Stonewall National Monument site (erasing all instances of trans and queer) & the disappearance of resources like the monumental “LGBTQ America” theme study.

These rumors have been confirmed, Blueskis.

I am enraged.
Blueskis, I am hearing rumors that DOGE is at the NEH building.

- They will fire 50-70% of staff.
- Almost all open grants since 2021 will be closed.
- Almost all NEH Grant programs will be eliminated.

Note: this has not yet been confirmed.

What is confirmed: DOGE CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES.

Latin Americanists and foreign film buffs: Trying to ID a Latin American film. Only have a meter of 35mm film. Might be titled PRESTAMOS. Kodak edge code suggests copy made in 1922, 1942, or 1962. Perhaps actors, military uniform, or locale will help with ID.

Excited to share this essay from @maxfox.bsky.social which makes use of the Wilcox Archives’ collections on Kiyoshi Kuromiya.
For World AIDS Day, here is a piece I wrote about Kiyoshi Kuromiya, the remarkable Philly HIV/AIDS activist (but as you will see, so much more) and his astonishing life
