Devoured this book in 3 days. Excellent narrative storytelling following several families, with data and stats interwoven. Extremely timely with current SNAP events and talk of affordability.

As I observed in my Substack Round Up this past week, the endgame of the military strikes against drug cartels in international waters is to lay the groundwork to use lethal military force against Americans at home. Pay attention open.substack.com/pub/asharang...

"We took freedom of speech away" should be in every campaign ad moving forward.
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

It really does not get more explicit than Trump telling top active-duty military generals that they will need to participate in occupations of large cities run by his political opponents as part of his "war from within"
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

Pretty remarkable when we're not at war—except against our own people.

A little fiction break, and now back to some non-fiction. I read and enjoyed Icebound by @andreapitzer.bsky.social … I’m not sure “enjoy” will be the right word for this book about such a dark topic, but I believe I’ll learn plenty.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

Grieving for the America I love.
Federal agents violently detained a food delivery driver as he emerged from a D.C. coffee shop Saturday morning.

The incident captured on video showed the officers throwing him to the ground and beating him before sweeping him away in an unmarked vehicle. wapo.st/45Egtkc

Immigration thugs drew their guns on a disabled kid & dragged him from a car outside a school.

Then they somehow left a bunch of bullets on school grounds.

When agents were contacted to pick up the ammunition, they told the school to use it for target practice.

An astonishing figure in this piece:

Last year, the U.S. budgeted $12.8B for new affordable housing.

This country is now poised to spend $45B on immigrant detention centers.

That's nearly *four times* as much on cages as on homes—in the middle of a devastating housing and homelessness crisis.
Are We About to Have Labor Camps in the United States of America?
If you think that’s far-fetched, then you really haven’t been paying attention to what the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress have been up to lately.
