A repository for photos of the critters I encounter. Not an entomologist. I try my best to identify these little guys accurately, but ID suggestions/corrections are always welcome!

Huh, neat! I wonder if the extra work might be warming up the lower part of your range/clearing out phlegm.
And yeah I get that too, I can't do it for very long before it starts to strain my voice if I've been chatty. Seen quite a few folks recommend doing normal vocal warmups to help with strain

Looks like some useful info! Definitely more descriptive than a lot of the tutorials I've found. Thank you!

Also interesting how some of it feels easier than regular speech. Maybe the practice will give you some vocal flexibility back over time?

Field crickets (Gryllinae) aren't just plain brown chirping things in backyards - the group is actually pretty diverse, with >3,000 species. Maybe the weirdest are in the genus Sciobia, which all have these delightful Pikmin-like "hats" 🥺

Good Sunday morning. It's now 8:08 AM and 44° outside, with a very early gray sky.

Today, my daily post features photographs from years ago from my files of lovely butterflies that have sadly not been present this year in my gardens.

Throat singing is rad! Kinda tough to find the sweet spot between the tension in your larynx and how much air to give it; Feels sorta like clearing your throat but sustained.
Just keep practicing (gently) and you'll get it down!

A photo of a rotund brown and tan orbweaver spider hanging in her web at night. The spider has a large abdomen which is tan with 2 columns of 3 black curved markings on either side of the middle. One of the spider's rear pair of legs are visible, slender and banded black and tan. The spider's two front pairs of legs are held tucked close to its body on either side of its head which is obscured in shadow. The spider's web shines from the flash, the background being the black of night.

hey! can you take a moment to sign this petition urging large pet store chains to STOP carrying jumping spiders? Many owners have experienced sickly, improperly labeled, and/or pregnant spiders when buying from places like Petsmart and Petco, and the spiders themselves suffer.

Yellow garden #spider - Argiope aurantia
(Shot in Cincinnati 9-11-25) 🕷️🕸️ #photography #macrophotography #wildlifephotography #wildlife #nature #urbanwildlife #animal #invertebrate #arachnid #orbweaver #spidersky #ento
A yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia) shot straight on with their white head at the bottom of frame and their black abdomen with yellow and white markings at the top. Their front pair of legs are all black. The rear most pair is mostly yellow until it turns black and their second pair from the front are the same. Their second from the back pair are mostly black but yellow closer to their body. We can’t really see their web or the iconic zig-zag due to the white background they’ve chosen for their home.
