While I can’t say that I “like” the movie, whenever I happen upon it I manage to enjoy it on some “guilty pleasure” level. It’s a great big beautiful mess that flies off the rails in a strangely satisfying way.

I feel the same way about the Alien franchise as I do about the Predator and Terminator franchises. Too many incoherent sequels, prequels, spinoffs or whatever. It’s a huge mess. But I guess if it’s a good movie then it’ll be the 3rd good Alien film in the mess.

...And I'm not saying this to trigger a heated response. I mean this sincerely. The original film, though it's a classic in every sense of the word, is kind of a dry movie. The characters are flat, the story is barely on paper. You could easily argue that "style over substance" is actually on-brand.

From a nostalgia point of view I love Tron. I grew up with it. I remember how amazing the VFX were at the time. I remember the Disneyland ride. Fond memories.

But have you recently sat down to actually watch the movie from beginning to end? It's not great. The bar was never that high to begin with.

I'm always here for an UDO synth. I don't presently own any of them but I've been salivating over them for a while. Out of all the hardware synth companies, their offerings seem the most focused on sound quality...with sexy control surfaces too. 😍

I’ve become more convinced that time is the most reliable critic. There are movies I hated when I first saw them that I would eventually grow to love. There are beloved films that notable critics initially panned but then retired their negative criticism of. Time tells the truth.

CGI isn’t good or bad. CGI is crafted by a human being sitting in front of 3D modelling software. That person might be very skilled or a complete novice. Yet, for the last 20 years, CGI has been discussed as if it’s some singular non-human entity. No, that’s AI. Feel free to be upset about that one.
